National Sewing Month~Day 30

Day 30~Part 1:

I had participated in my Day Guild Ugly Fabric Challenge last year. My friend that selected my Ugly donation asked if I would quilt it if she pieced it. I said, "Okay. No Problem." The Challenge pieces were due back to guild Show and Tell in June 2010 but no prizes were awarded then so~we were requested to bring our Challenge pieces to Show and Tell in October 2010.

This is what I received in June 2010. My Ugly donation is now the center of the log cabin blocks.

I added the inner black border from stash and used a print my friend had about 33 inches leftover. It finishes at about 62 x 62. Rarely do I make square quilts~so that was a challenge, too for me! I was going to quilt it with the baptist fans but I'm thinking maybe something a *little more forgiving* is needed~like popcorn. :)

Day 30~Part 2:

I quilted my Admirals' quilt! Now onto the binding. I had hoped to have this to the hand sewing of the binding today so that I could go to the rink and watch practice but~it just didn't happen. The players have a pre-game skate tomorrow morning, but it only lasts an hour as they need to travel to Rockford, Illinois for their first pre-season game.

Woohoo! I sewed everyday in September 2010 and posted about it! Thanks for sticking with me on this personal challenge~I *know* some days the sewing was BORING but hey~it's my sewing life! It is what it is! And I didn't even need to use my *filler* sewing. :)

(you know~for days when I didn't sew by wanted to post something sewing related!)

ps. blogger isn't playing *nice* :( will try later to upload my pix.

edit: blogger posted the pix at 7:50 pm. cross your fingers that they stay up!

National Sewing Month~Day 27

Day 27: a 'yawn'-er type of day.

WARNING! THIS BLOG POST MAY PUT YOU TO SLEEP!

I did manage to sew a seam for the backing for the *table runners* top and load it onto the frame. I also zig zag-ed a batt to make it long enough. The phone rang just as I basted down the batt and was getting ready to start the quilting...it was DD with a SOS.

'Would I PLEASE bring her Ipod to school so she and her classmate could practise their dance?!' By the time I returned from the Ipod drop off, return trip 30 minutes later for DD, then to DD's piano lesson~well~dinner and the Packer game.

Thus ends Day 27 of National Sewing Month. sorry~no pictures today. :(

National Sewing Month~Day 26

I managed a little bit of time in the sewing room today between our errands and supper.

First: I pieced the 4 bow tie blocks that I cut out yesterday.

Second: I pieced the bow tie table runner together.

Third: I sewed coping strips in between the runners so that I could load/quilt it as a single unit. Trick by: Lori. Thanks for sharing your tip!

Fourth: I loaded the *table runner top* onto the frame.

Stash Report Week #39

Seems like I sewed and sewed this week, but little to show for my time in the sewing room. :(

Fabric added this week: +12 yards
Fabric added this year: +254.6 yards

Fabric used this week: -5.5 yards
Fabric used this year: -320.5 yards

Net fabric for the year: -66 yards (used)

What I accomplished this week:

Goals for next week:

  • continue work on table runners (piece, load, quilt, bind~maybe!)
  • figure out back for Ads' quilt then load, quilt, bind~maybe!
  • work on KW's Christmas Ugly Fabric Challenge~maybe!

Looks like another busy week in the sewing room but I also have a dentist appointment and the Milwaukee Admirals start training camp this week! The skates are open to the public and FREE!

Maybe I can hand sew the bindings on some *things* while I sit in the stands and watch.

Okay~MAYBE.TOO.WEIRD.~maybe! Truth be told~Being Weird has NEVER stopped me BEFORE! :)

at least I would be warm at the rink with a quilt draped over me! :)

National Sewing Month~Day 25

Yesterday, I sewed the top two table runners.

Well~the log cabin blocks were leftovers. They didn't make the grade into the quilt so I merely sewed three together and instant dresser scarf for DH. Instant if you don't count that the blocks have been in a pizza box for almost 3 years now! :)

The middle runner is for the basement coffee table. I had made a quilt using the focus fabric and I unearth a bit of it earlier in the month. A quick border treatment and it's ready for quilting.

Lastly, I sewed four more bow tie blocks today to go with the eight from yesterday afternoon. The actual sewing part! I've been wanting to make something from bow tie blocks so I pulled out my sparse collection of 30's reproductions and used the white I had ordered. I cut for 4 more bow tie blocks~not sure if they will make the table runner or maybe hot pads for the spring.

That's it. That's my sewing for yesterday afternoon and today!

Thanks for stopping by and checking in on another day of my National Sewing Month. :)

National Sewing Month~Day 24

Today I completed the sashings and borders on my Milwaukee Admirals T*shirt quilt top. WooHoo!

Now the dilemma is the backing~I used just enough of the backing that it doesn't work for this quilt.

Should I: 1. buy all new backing? (that would be 4 yards), 2. buy 1/2 the amount for backing with the same pirate theme and piece it?, or 3. go on a treasure hunt in my fabric closets (yes...it's plural!) and see what I can find....I'll have to sleep on that and make a decision. :)

National Sewing Month~Day 23

Today I finished sewing the *shadows* on my t*shirt quilt. Notice the blank white block~bottom, middle row~DS suggested a blank block so that I could have Milwaukee Admiral players sign in that spot! What a great idea! The players are REALLY gonna be excited when they see me in the Autograph Corner after a game! :)

Next I will be working on the sashings and borders~always a tricky part for me.

Fall 2010 *To Sew* List

I did pretty good on my Summer 2010 *To Sew* List.

Only two items are carry~overs this time. My Milwaukee Admirals t*shirt quilt~which I am currently working on~ and the FAB Fall Challenge. Our mail date for the FAB Challenge has been moved to October 25th...so I better get to that sooner rather than later. :)

In no particular order but separated into personal and donation...

Personal

  • FAB Fall Challenge~mail date October 25, 2010

  • Assorted Christmas gift items

Donation

  • Margaret's Hope Chest~A
  • MHC~B
  • QOV~A
  • QOV~B

National Sewing Month~Day 22

Day 22 is label day!
I had one label and made three more. Sewed them onto the back of the quilts.

Ready to be mailed to Margaret's Hope Chest. I'm hoping these kid friendly quilts arrive in time for the Prison Outreach Deployment in a few days.

I also received a request for a Green Bay Packer quilt from my cousin.

Of course, this meant a shopping trip for Packer material, gold and a few greens added into the mix.

Can you believe the QOV print was clearance at $1.00/yard? Backing doesn't get more reasonable than that! So it followed me home, too.

Damage report: +12 yards

National Sewing Month~Day 17

Day 17 sewing is brought to you by:

1. scrappy backing. I mixed it up a little this time and made the back before I finished the top!

2. finished sewing the framing strips onto the novelty squares. I used 6.5 inch novelties (since I have a bin!) and 2.0 inch cut framing strips. The block finishes at 9.0 inches.

Oh Yeah Baby! Part 2

Last night at guild, the ladies were scheduled to exchange 6 inch novelty squares. I thought I'd take along my box of 6.5 inch squares and offer to anyone who was interested. While the ladies postponed their exchange, I did have a couple *takers* on my offer!

Yeah baby! maybe 1.5 to 2 yards gone! and ready to be added to other's ISPY quilts! I just LOVE sharing fabric! Don't you?!

The best news?

The lid NOW CLOSES on my box of novelties!

Yeah Baby! :)

National Sewing Month~Day 15

WIP Wednesday, too! I was really, really tempted to run to the store and BUY a backing but I took the challenge and rounded up all the paw print fabric I could find hiding in the stash.

The result: a scrappy back for the Animal 4 Patch. I think it is mostly dog paw print, but hey, I think it will pass muster. I have quite a few odd ball sizes leftover so I cut those into 2.25 inch strips...binding is on the sewing agenda soon!

That's it! The sewing for today!
