A Couple Days Late...

...I had wanted to sew a little bit for the Veterans on Memorial Day but I ended up furniture shopping for DD.

A couple days late, but today I made and sewed the labels on the three QOV's that have been hanging around.

Yesterday, I cut and made the pillowcases.

I don't know about you but for some reason I really drag on making the pillowcases and applying the labels.  Must be my least favorite part of the QOV process.  :(

The first two QOV's just came out of the dryer and I put the third in.  I also just finished the letters I like to send along with the quilts.

At this rate, I just may get them in the post tomorrow....now I just need to locate a box....sigh...

WIP Wednesday 5.28.2014

I reached the goal of quilting the Simply Strips Novelty.

I even free motioned it!  I tried for spirals but they are rather uneven...I'm thinking that I can free motion *organic spirals*! lol.

Next up for this quilt is the binding and filling out the label.

SO HURRY ~ If you want it!!

On the Design Wall 5.27.2014

I finished sewing the Simply Strips Novelty into a flimsy.

I decided to leave as is...and not add any borders.  I am trying to create smaller quilts to use up the leftover batts that I have accumulated.

pattern source: Fabric Cafe's Simply Strips.  FREE DOWNLOAD NOW!!! from Fabric Cafe's Facebook page ~ available only until the end of May 2014!!

The plan is to send this quilt to Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict for her Hand 2 Help Quilt Challenge.  I have chosen this set of quilts to go to Operation Hurricane Sandy as the need is for quilts of all shapes and sizes!

Memorial Day 5.26.2014

With thoughts and prayers of all the men and women who have served our country, who are currently serving our country and future, "THANK YOU" for doing what you do so that I may do what I do.

Whoop! Whoop! 5.23.2014

Stacked Novelties is a finish!

panto: Contempo, found here.

pattern inspiration:  Stacked Coins ~ public domain, I think.

Seems like I have *known* this pattern since I started sewing/quilting in 2001. It is very adjustable to whatever one wants to do ~ whether to make wider columns or narrower, borders or no borders, and whatever size sashing.

I went outside to take a few glamour shots.

First one is one the patio chair.

Next one is on DD's trampoline.

The third is clamped to the swing set.

Yes! I do like this. Only a clothes line or perhaps a wooden fence would be better, in my opinion.

And LOOK!  The label is also complete and sewn onto the back.

Whoop! Whoop!

WIP Wednesday

I quilted down the Stacked Novelties.  I was *going for* a modern look but not so much in my opinion.

:(

I used the Contempo panto, found here.

I also finished piecing the blocks for the next novelty quilt.  These pieces were leftover from the stacked novelty quilt. This quilt is based on the pattern Simply Strips Quilt.  Simply Strips is a free download from Fabric Cafe's Facebook page right now.  But hurry, Fabric Cafe changes their free download every month or so. I *liked* their Facebook page so I get a post when the free download patterns are changing.  Simply Strips Facebook free download can be found here.

Most of my novelties are oriented horizontally so I simply made my rows horizontal rather than vertical. Simply Strips from the Facebook download is here.

I thought this looked familiar.  Guess what?  I had brought a 3 yard kit from Fabric Cafe and made a quilt!

Hand2Help Charity Quilt Drive Check In

A quick check-in for Sarah's H2H Quilt Drive.  For more information, click on the button in the right side bar.  :)  Sarah's blog is here, in case you want to troll her entire  site.

Last week, I finished my donation quilt. My take on Marmalade Squares. Quilt inspiration found here.

I had what I thought was quite a few leftover bits from the top and bottom *ribbons* so I thought I would just cut up a few more and make a stacked coin type quilt to donate also.

Well ~ it turns out that the *leftovers* were just one column! Believe it or not, each column has 21 novelties in it. The grand total is 105 novelty fabrics!  and I just have one repeat...yikes!  That's 104 different novelty fabrics...oh my!

And are you ready?!  This quilt generated more scraps for another quilt.

Help me!  I think I'm caught in the novelty scrap vortex!

Whoop! Whoop! 5.16.2014

Whoop! Whoop!  A Very Good Week!

I was able to finish my quilt for the Hands2Help quilt drive!

I dug into my novelty squares box and made this quilt.  Quilt inspiration is Marmalade Squares, found here.

I used the Halycon panto on it, found here.

I had a few bits leftover from the intersecting borders so I thought I would sew them together, stacked coin style.

Perhaps the start of another type of ISPY quilt?!

What I'm Working on...

...the deadline for quilts for the Hands 2 Help Quilt Drive is fast approaching.  So I thought I would work on a quilt for Sarah's H2H.

My inspiration is Marmalade Squares by Katie Blakesly of Swim, Bike, Quilt. Instead of a charm pack, I decided to pull out my 6.5 inch novelty squares and base this quilt on the 6 inch measurement instead of 4.5 inch (finished size).

Here it is as a puzzle, trying to figure the layout.

Ta-da!

Here is the flimsy!

The size is approximately 57 x 69 before quilting. The border is not my first choice but it was in the stash and I had enough of it!  *grin*

Well ~ I used about 80 or so squares from the novelty box and as you can see, it's still pretty full.  *sigh*

Whoop! Whoop! 5.9.2014

The finished Milwaukee Admirals' quilt.

Whoop! Whoop!

I used the inkblot panto...found here.

I added a hanging sleeve and I used this you tube video.

Here is the *scroll* that I had the boys sign back in October 2013. Like the beginning of the month.

This is my May finish for Fiber Sorts' A Lovely Year of Finished!  That was a quick turn-a-round! I'll edit and add the link to her post when it's time.

:)

The linky party is up!  This is the link back to the Fiber Sort's A Lovely Year of Finishes ~ May 2014.

I was #49 on the May Goal setting list.

I already gifted this to my friend and she was delighted.  I think she had given up on me that I would make her this t*shirt quilt so it was a very pleasant surprise for her and brightened her day.  :)

I was also able to finish a few Cancer Recovery bags to donate to my day guild.  With each bag completed, your name goes in a drawing for free membership for 2014-2015.  That's 35 buckaroos, friends!  I think I have completed eight bags and we have one more month to go on the current year.

I boxed the bottom of three of the bags in a new to me way.  Here is the tutorial.  It was really helpful and I was so much closer to matching the seams...it's a good thing!

Binding Time

A little quiet time as I bind the Milwaukee Admirals' quilt.

See the quilt here.

See the Milwaukee Admirals website here.

What I'm Working On...

...it's been a long time since I had anything to share on my design wall.

Too looooong.

So here it is!  The current Milwaukee Admirals T*shirt quilt is a flimsy!  yea!

Today I road - tripped to A Quilting Connection.  It was almost 2 hours round trip but time well spent!

See?!  All this quilt batting goodness.  Two rolls of Hobbs 80/20 at 120 inches x 33 yards! They were part of my Christmas 2013 that I am just cashing in now.

Yummy.

Also, I ordered a flat board of black to donate to the Oconomowoc Quilt Guild Donation quilts.  I was too late to donate fabric and I don't seem to be able to fit their sew days into my sew days so ~ I thought I would donate black batting to the cause to help keep the costs down.  :)

May Goal

My May Goal for a Lovely Year of Finishes is this Tshirt UFO from October 2013.  Since the Milwaukee Admirals were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs -- this becomes last year's team quilt.

*sigh*
