April 2015 UFO...

…is DONE! just under the wire, I completed the quilting earlier in the week and the binding today!

My bed seemed to be the best place to photograph this quilt -- please pardon the messiness of my night stand.   :)

Finished block size is 9 inches.

My Crummy Saturday

My goal for Saturday was to empty two full M size bobbins that had red thread and two partially filled M size bobbins that had dark tan thread…sounds pretty quick and easy, right?

NOT! I noticed the other day when I put my scraps away that my scrap bins are once again bulging…sigh. So I went to my red bin and began sewing crumb blocks (aka Mile-a-Minute blocks, tutorial here.)

Several hours --like six!--
Success! Four empty M size bobbins. I'm getting ready to quilt a queen size quilt so I need all available M bobbins empty and ready to fill for this next project.

The GOOD NEWS is 62 -- 6.5 inch red crumb blocks.

The BAD NEWS -- I found a whole heap of pink fabric at the bottom of the red bin and now I want to make pink crumb blocks.

MORE GOOD NEWS -- I generated more scraps to be given to my friends for their dog bed ministry!

Whoop! Whoop! 4.24.2015

I'm a little early for *May for Me* but since I had the purple fabric and purple thread in Baby -- my domestic sewing machine -- I decided to update by purse and wallets.

purse pattern: tag-a-long tote by Atkinson Designs

and

wallet pattern: wonder wallet by Lazy Girl Designs.

I actually had to search the sewing room for the wonder wallet pattern…it took longer to find the pattern than to make both wallets!

Whoop! Whoop! on Sunday! 4.19.2015

My latest finish is *Butterflies in the Lilacs*.

It is a Four Patch Posie quilt pattern. Here is one of many tutorials found on the web.

I was going to take a picture of the back that shows the Angel Wings panto (this is just one of many sites on the web where it can be ordered) but the quilt got dirty on the swing set. :(

Now it needs a tumble through the wash before I can gift it. I'll add that picture once the quilt is washed…

EDIT:

The quilt has been washed and dried.

Here is a picture of the back.

Here is a picture of the Angel Wings panto -- looks like butterflies to me!

On the Design Wall

Last year, I won two different charm packs for participating in the Hands2Help Quilt Challenge! So this year I wanted to make quilts to donate back to Hand2Help Quilt Challenge with the charm packs I won.

One of the packs was Little Black Dress by Moda. I forgot to take a picture before I used it but found one on the web from Missouri Star Quilt Company.

I was searching and searching for a pattern but just didn't find one that I liked. I only had one charm pack and I wanted a finished quilt that was a little bigger than wall hanging size…if you know what I mean! I found this tutorial by Jo at Jo's Country Junction but what really intrigued me was how she prepared her back.  :) Combine this idea with the fact that Lee from Freshly Pieced Modern Quilts just spoke at my day guild and the ideas started jellin' together.

Here is what I came up with using the Little Black Dress charm pack and a neutral. It's a little hard to see as I used beige on my beige batting design wall. I feel it needs lots of texture so I am going to quilt it with feathers. It measures approximately 46 x 66 before quilting.

Onto Something New...

…my church is asking for donations for the upcoming Women's Renew Retreat, so I thought I would make a quilt.

Well, my first idea didn't work but the lilacs have about a 12 inch repeat and I had enough fabric to stack and slice into the Four Patch Posey blocks. I found just the right shading of green fabric to work as cornerstones in the stash.

Here is the completed center of the quilt, ready for the outer border of lilacs. To the left is a piece of the uncut fabric…

pattern source: Four Patch Posey, this is just one of many tutorials out on the web. Google Search will yield a multitude of ideas. Since my repeat was a little over 12 inches, I decided to cut my squares at 3 inches.

April ALYOF Goal

I haven't joined in this year and it's about time!

My April Goal is to quilt and bind this queen size Red Wing hockey quilt!

(Guess I better order the backing soon)

Thank You Marie!

I want to send a *Thank You!* out to Marie of QuiltBee -- she left a comment that she had made a heart quilt using creams and reds. Here is the link to her quilt --Strawberries and Cream. Hop on over and take a look -- very pretty!

Thank You Marie!

WIP Wednesday 4.1.2015

Well, I seem to be on the mend and have spent some time in the sewing room!

First: I finished DS' Red Wing hockey quilt to a flimsy. His request was for a quilt as big as I could make it. Right now the flimsy is at about 91 x 91. I need about 8 yards for the backing but that will be something I need to buy.  DS is my orderly child who likes his backings to be all one fabric! The blocks are 6.5 inch cut squares that are framed with 2.5 inch cut strips. It's pretty basic but I didn't want to cut up the hockey fabric any smaller that that!

Second: I've been sewing on the Little Dresses for Africa.

I've been having fun shopping for pillowcases to turn into the Little Dresses. So far, I've made 12!

FUN! FUN! FUN!

Third: I've started a quilt for the Hands2Help quilt drive

--click on logo on right to be taken to the explanation page--

I dug into my 6.5 inch novelty squares bin. I saw somewhere at some time on the web, the novelty squares in a  heart arrangement. (If this is your pattern---please let me know and I will link back to you!) I need to fill in with the background fabric so I can start sewing the top into a flimsy.

EDIT: Marie of Quilt Bee made a quilt similar to this called Strawberries and Cream.

Thank You Marie for letting me know!
