Finished sewing back the binding on my Redwork 9 Patch. I embroidered the blocks in June 2007 while on vacation to Southlake, Texas. I had lost the blocks but found them in time to finish for 1 of 2 *Procrastination Challenge* projects for the June meeting of the Lake Country Quilt Guild. I could have added quite a few more *procrastination projects* but wanted to keep my number do-able! As it is...I think I have procrastinated enough! :)
A simple stitch near the ditch was my quilting of choice. I barred the piano key border every second bar.

What I'm Working On...
...my Cub Pals' Wall Hanging!
I was terrified to un-sew what my friends had sewn! I think it is *why* the rows sat in the cupboard for almost 5.5 years! I finally worked up the courage to un-sew~the rows were originally almost 60 inches long. I wanted the rows to be approximately 30 inches...not as easy as un-sewing at the midway mark. Some rows had to be taken apart and re-sewn and some even, gasp! cut.
I am loving it so far and I have one more border to make and attach. :)
The next condundrum will be the quilting...any ideas?!
Here is the post with the full rows and the pattern. :)

fabric added this year: +99 yards
fabric used this week: -1 yard
fabric used this year: -120.5 yards
net fabric for the year: -21.5 yards ~used~
What I accomplished this week:
played with reverse applique technique~Sun Series~Butterflies Alpha and Beta

Goals for next week:

I seem to have a *thing* for butterflies. :)
The sewing fabric I am thinking about ordering this pattern for an iron caddy. A friend at guild had one and it was soooo cute!!

Butterflies in My Garden
Casey had said that batiks were the fabric of choice for reverse applique. Of course, I had to pull *something else* out of the cupboard and experiment. :)
This clears out the blue and the leftover yellow has fusible on it. :) There is more of the butterfly fabric, though. Perhaps place mats in my future?! lol
Garden Butterflies. Second in the Series.

Friday Finish Week #28
Earlier in the month, Casey Puetz lectured at the Oconomowoc Quilt Guild on Reverse Applique.
This is my attempt. :) The circle part of the sun is the reverse applique. just saying...
I was complaining that I thought my *sun* looked more like a *moon* so I added some rays with raggy edge applique~still my favorite. I added some thread rays using one of the fancy stitches on Baby and zig zag-ed the butterflies on. I did tack the bigger butterflies so they are *flying* and not *flopping*. lol
I also fused fabric to the back of the butterflies for a more finished look.
Today I am going to link up with:
Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

What I am Working On...
...small projects for the Oconomowoc Quilt Guild.
On the left, our charity project. The ladies have been making string blocks and we were asked to take a group of four and sew them together. Due in June. I've been resisting helping because as one of two members that has a longarm~you know I will be asked to do the quilting. :) Which is find and I gladly do it...I just allow the others to sew the blocks :)
Upper right is the President's block. She is leaving office in December after a two year term. Everyone is asked to make one block of her choice. Pretty simple and straight forward , right? Think again, I did my share of *frogging* on this one. lol
Lower right, Terry never did get around to making a name tag. Thought i would surprise her~hope she doesn't read the blog! Otherwise it won't be a surprise!
That's it....piano and skating time!

DD's Gifts to a Friend
DD has another birthday party this weekend! So we went to JoAnn Fabrics where she picked out another set of coordinating fleece. She cut and I helped tie. We are getting faster~this one took only 90 minutes from start to finish! We shaved 30 minutes off our time from the first one. I think the tie fleece blankets are becoming DD's *go to* gift this birthday season.
And she requested a Sock Bunny for the birthday friend. So CUTE!!!! I just LOVE these bunnies! :)

Design Wall Monday
On the design wall today are my May place mats and table runner for the family room cabinet.
Based on the pattern by Ayumi at Pink Penguin, found here.
Somewhere is this pile of backing cut-offs~I will piece together the backing for the place mats and the table runner. Since these are for me~I can use a wild and non-cohesive back! :)

When I saw Tia's Sock Bunny, I knew I wanted to make one!
Here is my little guy!
I.LOVE.HIM. and I will be giving him away this afternoon...along with a baby quilt. I tied a bow around his neck since he has a really long neck~the momma will just need to remove the bow before the little one plays with the bunny.

Thursday's Meeting Show and Tell
Last month, another Pat shared her tie purse pattern complete with a demonstration and sewing afternoon. I was unable to stay for the sewing and kept meaning to get to making my purse. I know when I share a pattern or shortcut or anything~I am always happy when other members actually *do* what I have shared. So this week~I also worked on my Pat Tie Purse~done in time for Show and Tell.
Here it is~warts and all. I am positive that I made a few mistakes along the way and I'm hoping Pat can put me on the right track when I make my next one. I already have the tie picked out! I actually forgot to take a *before* picture. :)

WIP Wednesday
Last month, my day guild said that they were running low on the Cancer Totes with comfort pillows that are supplied to two of the local Cancer Treatment Centers. Since the meeting is tomorrow, I took some time this week to make four totes and pillows. I like to make a set over the summer to donate at our meeting in September than another batch in the spring before the guild goes on summer hiatus.
Although these totes were not on my *To Sew* list...I'm always glad when I take time to make a little something to donate and support my guild. :) and I found the decor weight fabric at the St. Vincent de Paul and paid $3.99 for the remainder of the bolt. I was able to cut creatively and make four totes! I LOVE a bargain! :)

In the mean time, I do have a few other projects that I will be working on! :)

WIP Wednesday
I am making more 9 patches.
This time~it's red ones! I thought I might need a run to the fabric store to shore up on reds but I raided my stash of patriotics of 2.5 inch red strips.
I finally found my redwork blocks. I had searched and searched the sewing room and wouldn't ya know~they were in the last place I looked! Funny thing is that I looked in that particular cabinet and at the baggie they were in but never opened the baggie! On the top and bottom of the pile of redwork blocks were Wisconsin blocks...ummm...
I stitched the blocks in the summer 2007 on the kid's and my first trip back to Southlake, Texas. DS stayed with friends while DD and I moteled it. The Hilton to be exact...nice digs! Any way, DD slept a lot so I was able to stitch these blocks while she was snoozing.
I have this wall hanging on my day guild Procrastination List to complete by the June 2012 meeting. Looks like I found this just in time to complete! :)
Here are the redwork blocks with the alternating red 9 patches.
ps. Do you believe in *kismet*? This is UFO #2 on my list....
