SoScrappy Saturday 3.30.2024

Today is the fifth Saturday of March of the color purple. The last Saturday is the day to showcase the Table Scraps projects. The Table Scraps March prompt is birds.

So I made a flock of purple birds. I realized later that this is the icon from the app formally known as 'Twitter'.

I only had enough of the gray background for two 'Meals on Wheels' placemats. I was going to make more but somehow, the month got away from me without more placemats being made. Imagine, that?!

Finish or NOT Friday 3.29.2024

I have a full finish and a flimsy finish this week.

First up is my Full Finish. What is a full finish? It's a completely done quilt. I wasn't sure I would get this one done but I changed a few things around and tamed the tension problem on Baby Brother. I changed to a thinner thread and re-wound the bobbin, twice. The first wind was a little sloppy so I re-wound and it was tighter. I also changed out the bobbin thinking the one I used might be old and not totally round anymore. Baby was still making awful noises as she went through all the layers...

My flimsy finish is the FB QOV Working Stars Flimsy. I received 6 yards in the mail from one of our Admins, Carol, and I picked a pattern by Fabric Cafe and made the quilt top. The next step is to mail the flimsy to Carol. I like this pattern as the large block is 9.5 inches cut and great for a larger print that one doesn't want to cut up.

WIP Wednesday 3.27.2024

I finished my Purple Plus to a flimsy. I ordered backing fabric and I am waiting for it to arrive. I did change out the upper left quadrant. Not sure that I am liking the change but 'It Is What It Is'...I was trying to go for a more cascading look. LOL I think I have enough purple charm squares for one more Purple Plus.

I also finished the flimsy version of 'Long May She Wave'.

It's also time to start the 3/6 yard project I received from Carol of FB QOV Working Stars group. I volunteered to put together a flimsy using one of the Fabric Cafe patterns. She sent 6 yards of fabric and a Fabric Cafe book. I make the flimsy and then mail it back to her. Since the blue fabric has a rather large motif of the Statue of Liberty, I picked City Lights from Fast and Fun 3 Yard Quilts. It uses a large 9.5 inch cut focus fabric.

Design Wall Monday 3.25.2024

At this week's Melon Head meeting the ruler demonstration is the strip ruler by Cozy Quilt Designs.

Do I have any quilts using that ruler? Uh, no. I donated the quilts I made for my last time that ruler was demonstrated when I lived in Wisconsin.

Could I make a little something? Geez, I usually need more time to fit projects into my sewing schedule.

I've been thinking about the pattern 'Long May She wave'.

Here's my start.

I can 'see' that I am going to have a few design opportunities with this one. LOL

SoScrappy Saturday 3.23.2024

Today is the fourth Saturday of March of the color purple! Since March has 5 Saturdays, this is my bonus (or free) Saturday.

I needed a quilting sample for the Gammill technician so he could adjust the long arm. I found this Elsa/Anna panel and decided it would work as a 'sample'. I did bind it it in purple! March 2024 is the purple month! LOL

I also arranged the purple blocks for the plus quilt.

Finish or NOT Friday 3.22.2024

I finished the sweet Cinderella quilt. I only used one print twice so the rest of the duplicates went into the novelty bin. The novelty bin is getting full so I will need to work on that soon-ish.

I also pulled out my bin that holds 5 inch purple squares. This bin of squares is circa 2017. I'll be making a cross quilt with the squares.

WIP Wednesday 3.20.2024

In honor of the color purple, I pulled out one of my boxes of a purple project.

In 2015, my daughter went to Swaziland, South Africa for a Church sponsored Mission Trip. The leader 'knew' that I sewed and asked if I could make a few 'Dresses for Africa' out of pillowcases. I made over 60 dresses personally and I put out the call to my three groups I belonged to. We donated over 300 dresses! The only stipulation for the dresses was that there were NO western influences. So nothing related to the USA, cartoons, weapons or other western type things. When a little dress was donated with Cinderella, I knew she needed to stay behind. I cut her into 6.5 inch squares and put her in a project box along with the purple and pink. I ran across this Vill Rosa Ahoy pattern and thought it would work for the Cinderella pillowcase pieces.

Here are my squares and I need to add a border.

Here is the border I added.

Stay At Home Round Robin (SAHRR) Parade 3.18.2024

This is the first year I participated in the Stay At Home Round Robin (SAHRR) hosted by Quilting Gail and a few of her blogger friends. I was glad I did it as I was looking to stretch my creativity within each round parameters.

Did I struggle a bit? Yes.

Did I stretch my creativity? Yes

Did I have fun? Yes

My project started out with a red, white and blue 16 patch star. As I was building this quilt, my iron started leaving dark marks on the white. So I brought a new iron (the old one also wasn't heating up well - so it was time for a new one!) But alas, the new one left dark marks on the white fabric too.

Any advise on removing the marks. I really really don't want to wash this one!

Finish or NOT Friday 3.15.2024

I have a finish today! A big one!

This is the last of the QOV Signature quilts from the blocks I took after the September and November quilt shows. May I present Signature QOV Juliet...

WIP Wednesday 3.13.2024

My last QOV Signature is progressing nicely. First, I cut a whole bunch of squares and placed them on the design wall. I'm height challenged so there will be one more row added to the top.

After all the squares are sewn together. I am actually liking this! Maybe because it is different than all the rest...LOL

Design Wall Monday 3.11.2024

I'm down to my last few QOV Signature blocks!

Here's what I'm working with but I do think I will need to add to the selections to help this quilt be to size. A few of the signature blocks were only 7.5 inches across the pieced sections, so I trimmed all to match the smallest one. I'm going to try for a Trip Around the World setting.

Finish or NOT Friday 3.8.2024

I have two finishes this week!

First up is QOV Signature Hotel. I dug into the stash and found this great stripe fabric that is diagonally printed on the straight of grain to use as the binding. So cool! :)

pattern: Signature squares alternating with patriotic print
panto: serpentine

My second finish is my Rhesa inspired QOV Signature India. It looks a little crooked in the picture. I sure hope when I pin it to the design wall...it will straighten out.

pattern: Rhesa original
panto: serpentine

I have 10 QOV Signature squares left from my pile. The next quilt, I will use 9 and that leaves one lonely square to save for the next series of quilts. :)

WIP Wednesday 3.6.2024

I'm working on the next QOV Signature quilt. My pile of signature blocks is dwindling down. This pattern is from my friend, Rhesa. First I made the columns.

I then added the sashings (2.5 inch cut) and then the large outer border (7.0 inches cut) to bring the quilt to size. I normally don't like the large borders but this fabric is a busy one. Adding more squares either on the bottom or side just didn't work mathematically. The more I look at this quilt, the more I like it. :)

Design Wall Monday 3.4.2024

A new week, a new month and a new QOV Signature quilt in the works. In the end, I decided to split the remaining Signature squares and make two quilts with less squares. I guess I just wasn't feeling the 'please sign more QOV squares for me' the other day. LOL

Here is my current fabric gathering. The plan was to quilt down the tan squares QOV and start on this one Saturday. A leaking water heater sent into motion a whole different path for my weekend and Monday. I'm hoping I can catch up as next week is my self-imposed deadline to have the QOV Signature quilts done and delivered!!
