WIP Wednesday 9.29.2021

The plan for the mis-cut jelly roll variation is to unpick the stitching every 5 rows or 10.5 inches. I did this during our football watching marathon.

Next I pressed and cut 2.5 inch sections. I'm going to modify Wood Chips from Riley Blake.  I am going to use the pieced strip in place of the plain strip of fabric.

Since I have a variety of light and dark in each 2.5 inch strip, I decided to go with grays as my background. Here's where I left off yesterday. I'm out of the light gray so I will need to sub in another light gray and move some blocks around to balance.

I'm actually kinda liking it, it has a calming effect on me. I was hoping for it to be a QOV but with all the gray...it just might not make the grade. Time will tell...

Design Wall Monday 9.27.2021

Well, Saturday September 18, 2021 was National Sew a Jelly Roll Day. Since I was going to be out of town, I thought I would try a variation of a jell roll quilt that has been intriguing me, it's the center part. This is a Lisa Sutherland quilt that is no longer available for purchase. She is putting together a QOV Pattern book from her webpage, Quilt Jubilee. I'll be buying her book once it hits the internet! I think she might still have a few free patterns available for download.

I don't know the name of this pattern. :(

I pulled out my mega jelly roll I had sewn together with my leftover 2.5 inch strips. Measured 1600 inches minus 18 inches (1582 inches) and starting sewing on my merry way.

My finished panel.

I found directions on a FB page and I followed those. I won't post them here because this is where 'things' headed south. I did the math, un-sewed the required strips then sliced. ummm...that didn't work.

I've been thinking about this. I think that the panel needs to be square before slicing. It also need to be divisible by 2 evenly. For example: 48 x 48 would work since 48 divide by 2 = 24. Which will give you 24 rows of 2 inch strips. 50 x 50 wouldn't work because 50 divided by 2 = 25. An uneven number of 2 inch strips...my panel was 50 inches across and 64 inches down....not good.

I'll be re-visiting this at a later date as I still have a pretty big jelly roll.

In the mean time, I'm working up a plan to use the mis-cut jelly roll panel.

SoScrappy Saturday 9.25.2021

Today is the fourth Saturday of September of orange.

Time for my crumb blocks. I actually had more orange than I thought in my scraps so this was a relatively easy sew.

I had just a little bit of orange for the leftover bin.

Whoop! Whoop! 9.24.2021

Well, my Whoop! this week is that my husband survived a motorcycle accident Sunday late afternoon while I was on Mackinac Island. Five broken ribs, two fractured vertebras, punctured lunch sac, badly skinned knees (aka road rash) and a severely bruised left hand. A light colored SUV pulled out in front of him, cut him off and he had lay both himself and the bike down at 50 mph. So blessed that he always wears the best protective gear he can find!

I'll be doning my nurse's assistant hat again and be his hands and feet. He is actually taking charge of his own recovery!

I have a few sewing 'things' I managed before Mackinac and I'll show those in a few days. I don't expect to be spending much time in my sewing space in the near future....

A Mommy and Me Weekend 9.16.2021

My daughter and I are planning a little weekend get-away. At first, it was when her schedule at work wasn't so demanding but she has since quit that job and we couldn't get a refund on our reservations. Her new position said, 'Go! Have FUN and we'll see you when you are recharged!' So this will be our home for the weekend...Friday.Saturday.Sunday.with a return to reality late Monday afternoon or maybe night! LOL

I think our room just might be the one under the peak...a 300 number. It was the last room I could find on Mackinac Island for this weekend DD was originally able to get away.

I've scheduled a few posts (this one included) for when I'm away. I'm still on the fence about taking the laptop...it's heavy...so there might not be any Linky parties happening for me!

Enjoy your weekend! I'll enjoy the slower pace of the island and the clip-clop of the horses. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the Island until medically required. Walking, bicycles and horses are the transportation modes...

Design Wall Monday 9.13.2021

L👀K!

Who's back on the design wall? Pink Pavers!

I decided to add another row so it's 60 x 72 before quilting.

For some reason I thought I needed 9 more blocks for a row and had those made in a jiffy! But as I was pinning it...I was three blocks short of a full strip. Oh well, back to the creating blocks!

I made the pink centers and it was so nice to just pull from my pre-cut 2.5 inch bin! Then I remembered I had leftover centers from the original making of this quilt...

oh geez, the mind is starting to drift...

Wouldn't you know, I didn't get a picture of the completed flimsy. Drifting, again....

SoScrappy Saturday 9.11.2021

A Solemn Day for sure as our nation reflects on the 20th anniversary of the 911 attacks on the Twin Towers, Pentagon and the brave passengers that all died in the field in Pennsylvania protecting the White House. I remember exactly where and what I was doing and the eery-ness of the quiet in the skies in the following days.

When I brought the fabric featured in this quilt, I just liked it. I thought that this would be a nice QOV but somehow, 20 years later...it still lives with me as one of my summer quilts.

But wait! DH was working on the long arm and I have another finish! SHOCKING! and the long arm is making a better y-axis stitch now!

WIP Wednesday 9.8.2021

 L👀K!

I'm quilting! Only thing, the back sensor is not making a good stitch when going backwards. The last time this happen, a complete cleaning of the o-ring solved the issue. Well, DH and I did that and yet, the stitch is still not right. It seems like there just isn't a good connection of the sensor. Maybe DH and I will try to adjust the contact later... In any event, I kept on sewing and this week...a TRUE finish...if the binding angels are smiling down on me!

Design Wall Monday 9.6.2021

Happy Labor Day and a grateful THANK YOU for all who work and continue to work through this pandemic season!

I pulled out the sailboats that I brought at part 1 of the guild garage sale. Upon further inspection, I realized that 5 are more girlish in fabrics and 4 are more boyish fabrics. Looks like I'll be making a few more sailboats...LOL... The baggie did contain the directions and a few more of the blues. I also noticed one of the sailboats was hand stitched! WOWZA!

Oh Scrap! 9.5.2021

My three bins of fabric cast offs were starting to overflow and my 2.5 inch ender/leader projects has been a non-happening for quite awhile now.

So Friday, yesterday and today I started cutting the cast offs into 2.5 inch squares. I went to the dollar store to buy some organizers, like Cynthia in this post.

I going to try and keep the squares in their color families...emphasis on TRY!

I think this organization will help with Debby Brown's Color Block Quilt Along I participate in.

SoScrappy Saturday 9.4.2021

Today is the first Saturday of September of the color orange.

Time for my Mary's rectangles.  I don't sew very much with orange but I was able to find orange at the guild garage sale. I'm very grateful for the sale as I was able to buy just what I needed for a few projects without a major $$ investment!

Whoop! Whoop! 9.3.2021

I continued sewing the border pieces together. I did trim the copping border to fit the pieced border.

I felt it still needed a little something and I have two pieces left from the garage sale. One will be the backing with a little creativity and the other is the outer border and binding.

It's about 60 x 80 before quilting.

What, dear quilting friends, do you suggest as a quilting motif? I'm thinking about buying a new pantograph for this one as I don't have anything I think will work on this one. I am leaning towards the gold thread so the design will fade into the gold borders and pop in the other areas. I'm all ears!!

WIP Wednesday 9.1.2021

I took my time and measured and pieced the inner border pieces. Here they are ready to be assembled into the border.

I'm using this pattern and following measurements for the border piecing.

I'm going to add one more border but it's currently in the laundry. Yes, it's a piece from the guild garage sale.
