WIP Wednesday 5.31.2023

The Mary's Rectangles and Breezy Windmills are filling in nicely. I'm actually kinda liking the mix of the two blocks. It's a good way to use both sets of orphan blocks. It helps that it's the rainbow color palette as the look of the blocks are very similar.

I changed a few blocks around and made a few more in different color ways.

I thought I was done piecing this quilt top. It's about 48 x 62 but...

it started whispering. Borders, borders, borders. So, I added a few borders. It's about 60 x 78 before quilting. The border is actually a leaf print but it just looks like multi-colored ovals.

Design Wall Monday 5.29.2023

Today is a somber Holiday in the USA. It's a day to Honor, Remember and Celebrate all in the Armed Services who gave their lives for the freedoms and liberties that we all enjoy in the USA.

A  'Thank You' to the families, friends and loved ones who gave their lives to defend the USA and beliefs!

I have another set of orphan blocks to share. I decided to join the Mary's Rectangle and Pinwheels into one quilt from the RSC2021, instead of making two separate quilts this time. I definitely over made blocks during 2021!

SoScrappy Saturday 5.27.2023

Today is the fourth Saturday of May of the color orange. One of the more challenging colors for me! I wonder 'what' June's color will be?! EDIT: Angela announce that dark and bright blue are the color prompt for June!

Time for my braid. I'm on the 'right' track but...not quite there yet. LOL...NOW I know how I end up with so many orphans in my sewing room!

Finish or NOT Friday 5.26.2023

My orphans have made friends!

The red and teal crumb hearts were orphans from one of my RSC2022 projects. I made green, gold and brown friends then added a few 4 patches and 9 patches in black and white and

Ta-Da! Orphans with New Friends!

I realized I never showed the finished road trip orphans from last month. I had a stack of orphan green blocks from a long ago quilt and I was going to make a few new friends in green and blue. But in the end, I decided to split the friends up and make one green and one blue quilt in child donation sizes. Here they are side by side.

Stay tuned...I still have more orphans to pair up with new friends! <grin>

WIP Wednesday 5.24.2023

Sara at My Sewing Room was right!

I decided to do a mix of the 4 patches and 9 patches. Mostly because it seems I keep finding more orphan blocks and I need to use them up!

Design Wall Monday 5.22.2023

I'm continuing on my journey of Orphan Blocks. When Anne decided on Orphan Blocks as the 2023 Casual Quilters Challenge 2023 theme, I thought that I was sure I had a few to use. Now that I have dug into my 'orphan block stash', I have more than a few!

When I saw this quilt on Pinterest (again--only a picture and no information), I thought, "I have a few crumby hearts I could use!'.

The red and teal are leftover from RSC2022 and I made the other three. The green and brown are from the crumb parts department and the gold is totally new.

I didn't have a large variety of black and white but I did have yardage. Wonder 'what' project is was for?! I made a few 4 patches using 6.5 inch blocks but then thought they were too big. So I made a few 9 patches using 4.5 inch blocks. I can't decide which one I like better...

SoScrappy Saturday 5.20.2023

Today is the third Saturday of May of the color orange! Orange just happens to be one of my lesser used colors in quilting. I tend to buy orange when needed and not many scraps survive.

Time for my Northwinds block.  I found this print in the stash but to me, it looks more reddish than orange. Maybe I'll keep my eyes peeled for a good chunk of orange for a low price...one can hope, right?!

Finish or NOT Friday 5.19.2023

I was worried about opening the new to me pack of needles for the long arm and having major problems...I think that is why I have been ignoring my growing number of tops to quilt. But I am happy to say that I did indeed open the new to me pack and after a little fiddling...all seems to be in working order on the long arm!

SO...I have two finishes!

First up: The Rainbow Crumb quilt. This was actually 'due' at my new guild Show and Tell. There was a Crumb Quilt Lecture by another member and I was asked to bring a few examples of my crumb quilts. I picked up a few of their pre-printed labels and will donate this one once labeled.

pattern: Rainbow Crumbs. Pinterest or Google Search 'crumb quilts' and many
                  tutorials pop up.

My second finish it the Grape Basket Quilt. This was made from 10 orphan blocks I picked up at one of the guilds in Wisconsin. I made two more Grape Basket blocks using the older blocks as a model. I set them on point and added borders and

Ta--Da!

pattern: Grape Basket is as near as I can figure this one out!

WIP Wednesday 5.17.2023

I decided to try and stagger the rainbow rows of crumbs. I had to do a little ripping and changing around the staggers.

I didn't realize it but my yellow and orange rows are reversed. Bummer. This top was altogether before I noticed and I didn't want to rip it all apart...

so, It Is What It Is...

Look 'who' woke up from her four week nap! This is the last quilt to be sewn with the last needle from when I got the long arm 15 years ago! Yup! I had a very large stash of needles for this sweetie!

Design Wall Monday 5.15.2023

First up: Happy Belated Mother's Day! to one and all that 'Mother' in any capacity!

It was only DH and I so we went out for lunch and he gave me a wonderful gift.

Everyone who travels to sew day will appreciate this gift...a 6 plug in compact extension cord with 3 USB plug in's and surge protector and grounded and a flat plug into the wall. Color me HAPPY! He told me that he found it at Lowe's. I just might head over to Lowe's and get him one for Father's Day...

Last Thursday at the QOV Sew Day, I wasn't sure what to work on. So, I took my pile of blue/white leaders and enders and just sewed and sewed and sewed. I was going to leave but then one of the ladies asked me to stay in case she needed help finishing up her binding, so I sewed some more. When I got home, I had ten rows of wonderful scrappy chaos.

Are you ready?!

There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to the placement of the blue patches.

I attended a new to me guild last Wednesday...The Howell Melon Patchers. It just happens that the speaker next week will be talking about crumbs and one of the ladies asked me to bring a few crumb quilts to Show and Tell. My response was, "Two suitcases of quilts?" Her response, "No. Two quilts!" So I thought I would put together a quick crumb quilt and donate it after the Show and Tell. It's going to be similar to this one that I blogged about here. Here are the crumbs I pulled out of the parts department. I think this one just might pull me out of my long arming block!

Finish or NOT Friday 5.12.2023

I finished putting the borders on the Grape Basket Quilt. I decided to keep it simple. I do like the calm feel of this quilt top. I searched for a backing but in the end, I brought new. I just need to sew the backing together and then this quilt will go in the queue for long arming. I haven't turned on the long arm in about three weeks...I guess, I lost my long arm mojo...it will return soon as I am coming up on the Orphan Block quilts deadline in June!
