Design Wall Monday 6.29.2026

I had enough hst's and zebra print to make another quilt for Project Linus. As I was searching for hst quilt patterns, I found the Walk-a-bout pattern (on Pinterest, of course!). The hst's made an 8.5 inch unfinished block so I cut the zebra print to match.

Since this 'Walk-a-bout' pattern went together so quickly, I pulled out my RWB and the Lisa Sutherland 'Old Glory for Dean' pattern to start piecing. This quilt is to be posted on Saturday July 4th on the Working Stars FB page.

Oh no! I made a critical error! I made my stars reversed. Blue on a light background instead of light on a blue background! This makes me sad. DH wanted to know if I 'was swearing when I realized this'? No...its time to pivot and make another quilt top. I just won't be able to participate in the 'Old Glory for Dean' parade...

SoScrappy Saturday 6.27.2026

Today is the fourth Saturday of June of the color 'pastels'. I interpreted this as meaning lighter tones of my colors...that I could find!

I did pick up a 'pastel' fabric from the free table as used it as the center piece on my Meals-on-Wheels place mats. I didn't have very much so I needed to improvise...

 pattern: 3.5 inch cut strips sewn as quilt as you go.

Finish or NOT Friday 2.26.2026

My finish this week is the old UFO i had found while searching for a pile of QOV block. I had already made the hst's (about 125 of those guys) so I only needed to square them up and sew the blocks.

 I opted for no border even if it meant a few of my points would be hidden!

It only took about 2.5 hours on the frame and ta-da! This was really a quick finish all the way around. If I only knew it would be such a quick and easy sew - I would have made it years ago! <grin>

Design Wall Monday 6.15.2026

Sad to report, not very much sewing is happening! I did manage to sew the blocks together for my faux pastel quilt...it's really just lighter fabrics.

Unfortunately, I was limited on the novelty so I could only cut 8 squares instead of 12. So this will be a sweet (almost 46 x 46) little quilt.

Today is the second Saturday of June of pastels. I normally don't have very many pastels in the stash but I did try to find lighter shades of blue, green, yellow and pink. I also picked up a little piece of a baby print at guild that is lighter in color. I do joke that I like to make one pastel quilt a year! Here is my pick...

I'm going to use a 'former free' quilt from Fabric Cafe called Simply Bricks. Oh no! I only have enough novelty for four rows...guess it will be a smaller quilt.

I have one finish this week and it's the Motorcycle Zig Zag Zoom. At the end of the month, the MelonHeads are having a presentation on bindings so I did a flange binding on this quilt as an example.

Design Wall Monday 6.8.2026

This Wednesday was selected as the reveal for Zig Zag Zoom quilts. Unfortunately, I turned in my rwb Zig Zag Zoom in February 2026 but blogged here. So I decided to make another one! Here is my fabric draw.

Here are the blocks I made. I did have to make half the blocks 'upside down' as my motorcycle print is directional. I usually don't take the easy piecing path. <grin>

SoScrappy Saturday 6.6.2026

Today is the first Saturday of June. The theme this month is 'pastels' or 'catch up'. Today, for me, is about 'catch up'. I wasn't very orange productive so I have a few orange projects hanging around the sewing room. 

The first project I worked on was my orange based Meals-on-Wheels placemats. I used a few of the Detroit Tigers themed fabric for the corners of the 1/4 Log Cabin blocks. I'm liking 'how' this set of placemats turned out and perfect for the summertime table.

Here are my placemats ready to sew. The backing is a hand dyed experiment gone wrong. <grin>

I have two finishes this week and I'm pretty happy! I managed to quilt and bind the two flimsies I uncovered in the sewing room closet.

The first finish is the Oriental panel 'In The Water Garden' quilt.

Design Wall Monday 6.1.2026

I think this will be a 'catch all' week for me...with no rhyme or reason to my sewing...

I have a little bit of orange sewing left from Rainbow Scrap Challenge May, so I cut out 4 Meals on Wheels placemats using Detroit Tigers fabric and 3.5 inch strips to make 1/4 log cabin units.

While searching for a set of long forgotten blocks, I found a couple of panel quilts I had made. I decided to pull them out and quilt them up as Project Linus donations. The first one is the Oriental panel flimsy. I seem to remember that all the fabric was found on the free table except for the gold background.

The second flimsy I found uses a monthly snowman panel. I wish I could tell you more about this pattern but I have a feeling that it was improvised as I went along.
