Design Wall Monday 5.31.2021

When I saw theses rwb socks at Target, they jumped into my cart.

Project Bunny was planned. A few weeks passed and I did make one bunny but that bunny needed a pal. So back to Target and luckily, the last pair of matching socks came home with me! I think I may look for star buttons for eyes...some day...

On a personal note:

22 years ago today, my youngest entered the world at 3:22 am! This year, I believe, is the first birthday (hers) that we have spent apart. So-- HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my DD-- born on Memorial Day 😍

Straightening the Sewing Room 5.30.2021

As I was working with my red, white and blue, I kept my strips I cut in order to cut a straight cut on my fabric. It resulted in quite the pile on the cutting table.

That's okay. As I was trolling Pinterest, I found Shabby Chic Flags that I liked that used these types of strips. Some also used ribbons, lace and various trims. Here is the one I made, hanging in my sewing space. I'm liking it! Only thing I would change is I would rather have a twine hanger than the blue fabric...now to find the twine...

note to self: I cut the blue at 9 x 12 rather than 9 x 9, used a rectangular rod as I didn't have a dowel rod on inventory. 😀

SoScrappy Saturday 5.29.2021

Today is the 5th Saturday of the month of RED! It's an extra day or a free day in the sewing room!

You might wonder, 'So Pat, what did YOU do?'

I have a plan for the word 'Free' but it depends on another color in the RSC2021. In due time...

Design Wall Monday 5.24.2021

Another week, another older panel as a basis to make a quilt. I believe my Quilting Buddy and I received this panel in our $10 grab bag when we went to the Nancy's Notions Warehouse sale a few years back when Nancy's was located in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Since Nancy passed away, the business has been sold to Missouri Star Quilt Company. The name is still Nancy's Notions but it is located in Hamilton, Missouri.

Here is the panel, it was cut a little on the wonky side. <sigh>

I decided to make the MSQC Starstruck blocks as corner surrounds in graduating blues. So far, I have a few completed. I decided on a blue then red border to bring the whole thing up to size and utilize the Starstruck blocks as the outer border.

Hands2Help: Hometown Heroes 5.23.2021

One of the options to donate a quilt this year at Sarah (Confessions of a Fabric Addict) Hands2Help Quilt Drive was Hometown Heroes.

The Hometown Hero I chose to honor was my daughter's English Professor/mentor/friend. Without the support from Dr. Kia Richmond, I think my daughter would have struggled so much more to complete her degree at Northern Michigan University this past spring. My daughter switched her degree with 2 semesters to graduation. Kia lead her in a directive study class her last term which allowed DD to graduate on time! Dr. Richmond's favorite colors are pink, green and black. If you have followed my blog, you have seen her quilt. DD gave Dr. Richmond her quilt in the beginning of May, when we all needed to be in Marquette, Michigan to tie up some loose ends.

I'm sneaking in a picture of Dr. Richmond with her quilt. shhhhh.....

Whoop! Whoop! 5.21.2021

I pieced the Statue of Liberty panel quilt to a flimsy!

Yay! I really like where this one went! I might even consider re-visiting this pattern without the panel inserts....

Getting closer to the flimsy stage, plus I was able to use quite a few of my beige patriotic fabric.

It seems like after I have a flimsy together, I wished I would have moved some blocks around. This is not an exception, but overall, I'm grooving to it! I think the inner border has been hanging around for about 10 years! and I still have more of it! But I am going to cut the remainder into 6.5 inch squares for future projects...maybe 4.5 inch squares, too. LOL

I think it needs a name but I'm not super  creative with quilt names...any suggestions?!

and I was able to quilt it down earlier today. Whoop! Whoop!

panto: large scribbles

I even cut the extra from the inner border into 6.5 inch squares, 4.5 inch squares and one lone 2.5 inch strip.

WIP Wednesday 5.19.2021

I continued making the alternate blocks for the latest panel quilt.

I then cut down the panels and framed in red. I hoped when I removed blocks and inserted the panel pieces, I would then have enough of my other blocks.

Guess what?! I DID! so I didn't have to make more! WIN!!

Design Wall Monday 5.17.2021

When I found this pattern while trolling Pinterest:

I was sure that it was the answer for this 'old' panel that's been hanging around the sewing room for a very long time! (I actually had brought 3 or 4 of the panels...what WAS I thinking?!)

Since Tiffany didn't give directions or a link to this pattern (or even a name!), I had to use my own measurements. I have a stack of 6.5 inch squares so I used that as the base number. It meant that I had to be ok with cutting parts of the panel down/off. Here's the progress I've made. I'm actually liking where this is headed!

WIP Wednesday 5.12.2021

I finished piecing my May Gemstones Color Block Quilt Along to a flimsy. I changed up the pattern a bit to make it closer to 60 x 70. I could have added another vertical row of blocks but I opted for a bigger border. 😍

Design Wall Monday 5.10.2021

I decided to use the leftover 16 patch flower blocks (from this quilt in the series) to make the May Color Blocks Quilt, Gemstones. I was leaning towards using the flower blocks along with a few 'other' girlish blocks but when I only had a darker gray fabric for background, I decided to go all flower blocks. I'm hoping for 'flowers on a rainy /dreary day' vibe. That means I need to make a few more...I did find enough 2.5 inch flower (and flower-ish) strips to make more blocks. Here's my progress so far.

SoScrappy Saturday 5.8.2021

DH and I started our day buying flowers to take to the cemetery. A day early for Mother's Day but rain is in the forecast for tomorrow. Next visit, DH wants to take his weed wacker... I probably should have gotten red carnations in keeping with the 'red' month but I thought the yellow looked cheery and bright.

After a few more stops and lunch, I went into the sewing room to work with my red strips. Seems lately, I'm sewing just in the nick of time to post!  LOL   Imagine my surprise when this block was the featured pattern on Missouri Star Quilt Company Friday tutorial. I always thought this pinwheel was public domain...

Whoop! Whoop! 5.7.2021

SEW HAPPY to have this one to a flimsy!

Here it is with the sides completed and the top rows ready to sew.

No dis-respect to the USA flag but I turned the whole thing upside down to place the lower rows. I was a few red/white hst's short of a full load...

Here it is! Whoop! Whoop! It really kicked my brain (and other body parts! lol). I'll need to give it a good press, make a back and it will be ready to go into the queue for long-arming. SEW HAPPY!

WIP Wednesday 5.5.2021

We got DD moved out of the NMU apartment! The UHAUL in Marquette Michigan wasn't able to guarantee a trailer, so DH picked one up close to home and dragged it north with us! Here were are at our last UP stop in St. Ignace. If you look close, you can see the Mackinac Bridge between the trees.

Last Wednesday, I was at loose ends in the sewing room. The May color for RSC hadn't been announced and the Color Blocks May pattern wasn't going to be released until Friday, when we left. So I grabbed one of my patriotic panels and started building. I decided to use Four Patch Charm as the base.

Something was looking off, so I removed the panel and placed a few pieced blocks in to get the orientation right.

I need to add a spacer border on the top/bottom but I'm not sure I like the white. I placed a light blue where the white is and I think I like that better. Time to find Jack...

SoScrappy Saturday 5.1.2021

May's color over at SoScrappy is RED!

The announcement was made on Thursday, so I went to the sewing room and stitched up a few blocks to share today. Did you know that May has 5 Saturdays! That means an extra day to share RED...what will I make? Good thing I have a few weeks to ponder...
