I realized this morning that I needed to make and send a Santa Gift exchange that I signed up for on my FB Quilts of Valor Working Stars group!
I'm calling the Thanksgiving 2021 a 'winner'! We had a few mishaps but all in all, I'm pretty happy with the way it all turned out! DD is a very calming presence in the kitchen for me. At one time when I was nervous she simply whispered, "Mom, I've catered events for 500, the family of 15 is a breeze".
Here she is with the turkey, close to a re-enactment of her brother cooking a turkey almost 10 years ago.
Here is DS.
Now onto quilty content:
Earlier in the week, I sewed miles and miles of binding onto the placemats, by machine front and back. Of course! LOL
I also decided to make a few coiled hot pads. After the first colored green one, I abandoned the fabric and just made the trivets natural. I made as many 'natural' hot pads as I had clothesline rope. If I want to make more, I'll have to source out the 100% cotton clothesline. I do have some with the polyester foam center but I'm not to sure about the polyester and heat transfer.
I must have gotten busy because this is the only picture of the table I have and it's only the dining room table and not the kids' table in the kitchen!
Hope all my US friends are enjoying their Thanksgiving weekend and
my World friends are enjoying their weekend! 😍
DH and I are hosting his family for Thanksgiving 2021.
What's a quilter to do? Make more placemats! Here is the first installment...LOL
The leaf and green print was from the stash but I purchased the orange, backing and binding. I originally was making these for a Wheels on Meals donation through the guild but the goal was reached before I finished the placemats. They are a little smaller but will work better on the temporary banquet table we will be using in addition to our dining room table.

Today is the third Saturday of November of the month of assembly!
Time for my crayons. All the crayons in my box! LOL!
...late night edition!
I finished the Deer Friends panel.
Thanks to Shirley Marlene Beebe from the FB Panel Quilt Ideas, I went in a totally different direction with my Santa and Deer Friends panel. :)
Does that ever happen to you?
I wanted the quilt to be a little longer, so I added a little bit to the top and bottom.
It's also taking it's turn on the frame. Yes, I am using sugar skulls as the backing. The sugar skulls are red and the first piece of extra backing that was close to the right size!
It's hard to see, but I'm quilting with the serpentine panto. Even with the panto, my spacing is still a little more organic than even. LOL

Another day and another Squirrel Project in the sewing room!
Today is the second Saturday of November of the month of Assembly.
Time for my Pinwheels! I decided to have the rainbow traverse opposite of the Mary's Rectangles, blogged last week.
Ta-Da!
It's a finish worth whooping about!
Here is the back with the baby's initials. I was trying to offset it, but it started smack dab in the center! You know, if I wanted the initials to start at the center...it would be offset!
Here are a few of my favorite blocks.
The baby gift took it's turn on the long arm. I asked DH to pick out a flimsy and he chose one of the 'slanty novelties'. His pick was a surprise as I thought he might 'go with' the more traditional sailboat flimsy.
The new baby arrived Friday before Halloween (my niece's second son) so time to quilt down the baby quilt. I usually wait until after the baby is born because I like to piece the baby's initials and include them on the back. I also wanted to send along a couple of books for the older brother, I went to a couple of stores but they didn't have the books I wanted on the shelf. I sure do miss going to a brick and mortar store to make a purchase. In any event, I ordered the books online and they should be here sometime this week.
Here are the initial letters I made. I used Tonya's Alphabet that was a free download in 2006 from Bonnie of Quiltville fame. Google 'Word Play Quilts by Tonya Ricucci' to see her book. It was published in 2010 and might be available as a e-book download...I did make some modifications on the letters to make them more block style.

Today is the first Saturday of November of the month of assembly!
In keeping with my schedule, I worked on my Mary's Rectangles first. RSC2021 is the first year that I stuck with making blocks every month. Looking at this quilt now, I'm learning lots about value! and that's a good thing!

My squirrel project is finished and ready to be enjoyed in the sewing room! I even had a present from DS to DD that I was in charge of wrapping and gifting...
I'm happy to report that the long arm is making a better backwards stitch. I've been trolling a few forums and started playing with the tension AND inserted a new needle. Works so much better! So happy to spend pennies rather than big $$!!
Yay!!
Surprise!
I arranged my hearts in an ascending locking heart order! Complete with a star on top and a tree trunk!!
pattern inspiration found here.
I made a few more hearts yesterday after the Halloween festivities.
Check back on Wednesday to 'see' how I am going to set these hearts! I think y'all will be pleasantly surprised!! <wink, wink>
