Design Wall Monday 9.30.2024

Last Wednesday, Yvonne shared her method for making Christmas stockings. They are strip pieced Quilt-as-you-go and lined. It was voted that the program committee would make a few and work out any kinks and be available to help members sew the stockings in early November. Our presentation day is Wednesday October 9th.

So far, I've made two stockings but have more batting cut out. I think for maybe 5 or 6 more.

Today, I found a few browns and began working on the blocks for my October Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2024 blocks. I was pretty happy when I found a brown leaf print I could use!

SoScrappy Saturday 9.28.2024

Today is the fourth Saturday of September of the color black. It's also Table Scraps reveal day. This month was a bit of a challenge for me. The shape for the month was leaves.

I decided to go with fabric with leaves and I couldn't resist the squirrels with leaves at JAF.  The bottom two place mats where orphan blocks that I added a little bit of border to reach Michigan Meals on Wheels size. I blogged about the original quilt here. I did bind the place mats in black so, I guess I met both challenges on my Meals on Wheels place mats.

 A close up of the squirrels...eek! I'm in l💜ve!

WIP Wednesday 9.25.2024

I worked really long into the night the other day and finished up the Christmas Pineapple blocks. In the end, I decided to insert a strip of Christmas fabric. I had thought one of the ladies at guild wanted to use a piece of fabric but, I guess, she found a panel to use in her quilt. :) I actually kinda like the fabric insert.

The Blocks...

The blocks all sewn together.

Design Wall Monday 9.23.2024

I have progress to report on the Strippy Stars. I sewed all the stars and added sashing. My sashings are a little bit kitty-wampus, but I can live with that.

I added un-even borders so that it is closer to 50 x 70 before quilting,

It's also time for me to make another Bonnie Hunter Pineapple Blossom. Since I had the green and red fabric on the cutting table, it made sense to cut for this quilt also. Here are my pieces, ready to sew.

Finish or NOT Friday 9.20.2024

I'll take the NOT in the Finish or NOT Friday. This feels more like a Design Wall Monday...

On Wednesday, Marilyn asked for volunteers to sew up samples for the Creative Grids Strippy Ruler, found here. I had shared that I learned this particular block construction using a template and not the ruler (thanks to the Oconomowoc Helping Hands Quilt Bee in 2017). In any event, Marilyn asked me to make a sample and well, I wasn't very nice about it. Imagine that! Now I am feeling guilty so I dug out the template and directions and pulled some fabrics for a Christmas quilt.

I've used all my white so it's currently in the dryer. (yes, I am a washer...don't judge me! LOL) Here is my progress for far today. I've already changed out the winter gnomes for snowmen in the border and am leaning towards the lighter blue for sashing.

This is my inspiration quilt that I made in 2017 using Bev's method for the stars. I started referring to this star as 'Bev's Star'.

WIP Wednesday 9.18.2024

My sewing motivation is at an all time low. :(

I did manage to find 2 orphan blocks that I turned into place mats tops (on the left) and 2 more that I wanted to try piecing. The theme for Table Scraps is leaves and the RSC September color is black. All four have leaf prints in the top and I plan to bind them in black.

I did have my little ponies cut off this week. I think Bobbie (the hairdresser) said they are about 8-9 inches long. I have the paperwork to mail/ donate to Children with Hair Loss. This group accepts grey hair. :)

WIP Wednesday 9.11.2024

I don't think I ever shared my Birthday Challenge quilt for September birthdays that I made last spring. I wanted to make a wall hanging for September and wanted to adapt Villa Rosa Design's Pointless pattern. Here is my fabric draw.

The pencils went together pretty quick. It's an easy pattern to follow, plus I was only making three pencils.

Here are my pencils on the light blue background.

I also wanted to make placemats in the September Back-to-School theme. Here are my letters for the  placemats.

Here are my letters on the yellow fabric.

This is 'how' I added the words to my school-related fabrics.

Bell Creek Quilts or Bust 9.9.2024

After a quick breakfast with DD, it will be time to get on the road and travel back to Bell Creek Quilts. A shout out to my wonderful Wisconsin quilty friends that attended my lecture to support me! You all are the greatest! 💚💛💚

My 'stuff' seems to have exploded in the back of my SUV... All the luggage now has quilts plus there is a layer of quilts on the folded middle row of seats. Note to self: make smaller quilt to illustrate the lecture in future trunk shows.

The RSC color of September is black...not sure that I am liking the black background to the blog...

Finish or NOT Friday 9.6.2024

I made it to the Great Wisconsin Quilt Show!

Before I left, I finished piecing the Staggered Stars quilt. It's here with me in Wisconsin. Once I had the blocks made, it didn't take too long to finish putting it together. I like how the red/blue are opposite each other to add a bit of interest.

pattern: found on Pinterest, dead link.

Madison, Wisconsin or Bust 9.5.2024

I'm pretty much packed and ready to head out to the Great Wisconsin Quilt Show

It's about a 6 hour drive but I will be stopping along the way. One good thing is that Wisconsin is on Central Time and Michigan is on Eastern Time...

WIP Wednesday 9.4.2024

I worked more on the Single Scoop Ice Cream quilt. Truth be told...I did follow the paper piece pattern for the cone and side angles. Then I switched to traditional piecing for the remaining 7 scoops !

I added an inner white border.

I wanted to add an outer border of the diamond fabric but I didn't have enough. It's a pretty old print so buying more is not an option. :(

I settled on a partial border with the strawberry pink print. Maybe not the best, but I am sorta liking it. This is as far as this one is going, into the suitcase for the trip to the Great Wisconsin Quilt Show!

pattern: Single Scoop

I had wanted to make this crumb star quilt that I found on Pinterest, awhile back.

But as sometimes happens, it morphed into a similar yet different quilt.

I have given the above quilt away, so I wanted to re-visit the Staggered Star Quilt. I decided to make half red centers/blue legs and the other half blue centers/ red legs. This is my fabric draw, as you can see, I already had the crumb centers made.

Here are the parts for the blue centers/red legs.

The blocks.
