SoScrappy Saturday 6.6.2026

Today is the first Saturday of June. The theme this month is 'pastels' or 'catch up'. Today, for me, is about 'catch up'. I wasn't very orange productive so I have a few orange projects hanging around the sewing room. 

The first project I worked on was my orange based Meals-on-Wheels placemats. I used a few of the Detroit Tigers themed fabric for the corners of the 1/4 Log Cabin blocks. I'm liking 'how' this set of placemats turned out and perfect for the summertime table.

Here are my placemats ready to sew. The backing is a hand dyed experiment gone wrong. <grin>

Finish or NOT Friday 6.5.2026

I have two finishes this week and I'm pretty happy! I managed to quilt and bind the two flimsies I uncovered in the sewing room closet.

The first finish is the Oriental panel 'In The Water Garden' quilt.

I feel like the 'dog days' of summer have arrived...

I loaded both flimsies onto the frame and quilted them down.

Design Wall Monday 6.1.2026

I think this will be a 'catch all' week for me...with no rhyme or reason to my sewing...

I have a little bit of orange sewing left from Rainbow Scrap Challenge May, so I cut out 4 Meals on Wheels placemats using Detroit Tigers fabric and 3.5 inch strips to make 1/4 log cabin units.

While searching for a set of long forgotten blocks, I found a couple of panel quilts I had made. I decided to pull them out and quilt them up as Project Linus donations. The first one is the Oriental panel flimsy. I seem to remember that all the fabric was found on the free table except for the gold background.

The second flimsy I found uses a monthly snowman panel. I wish I could tell you more about this pattern but I have a feeling that it was improvised as I went along.

SoScrappy Saturday 5.30.2026

 I did manage a little bit of orange sewing to round out the month. I made table mats for two end tables and night stands with Detroit Tigers fabric. I'm thinking the mats can stay out all summer...I can make Detroit Lions and Detroit Red Wings mats to swap out in the correct sport season.

Finish or NOT Friday 5.29.2026

 I've been 'saving' my finishes for today!

First in the Lisa Sutherland pattern, Friendship Stars and Stripes. I sewed this one to a flimsy at the retreat in late April and quilted and bound it earlier in the week.

I also finished the Villa Rosa pattern 31. I was happy to use the wolf fabric that has been hanging around the sewing room for about 20 years! Yet is still looks good in this pattern. Some fabric is ageless!

My last finish was an easy one. I simply loaded the panel as is and quilted.

The first will be donated to Michigan Quilts of Valor and the next two were given to Project Linus and will be on their way to 'their forever home' when the local Project Linus 'finds the right one'. 💜

There is NOT a lot of sewing happening here but I did manage a few 4 patches using orange and gray color combination. Hmmm...I like these blocks better than I thought I would. <grin>

My wolf 31 is a flimsy. I needed to add to the width but I had enough length. I'm actually kinda liking the look.

Last weekend, we went 'up north' and freed the motorhome from winter storage. We dropped it off for a pre-season check to make sure it is travel ready. :) That's my FIL helping to guide DH out of the storage building. I also stand by 'key' obstacles DH doesn't want to hit. :) I'm not exactly sure 'why' it wasn't centered in the building over the winter.

Design Wall Monday 5.18.2026

I am always amazed at how quickly time passes and the blog sits idle. It wasn't my intention to neglect my blogger friends and I am sorry. There has been little to report back to you, my friends...

I did start my next Villa Rosa pattern but failed to complete it (at all) on time> It's the 31 pattern and the inspiration is this hunk of wolf fabric from one of my first quilts. I'm thinking it dates back about 20 years.

Here is the other fabrics for the draw.

I'm going to need a few coping borders on the wolves, so I decided to start on the arrows first. This is 'where' I am at...

But, exactly 'what' have I been making?!

Scrubbies! Who knew crocheting is so hard to learn?! Mine is the orange and my teacher's is the aqua...

Finish or NOT Friday 5.8.2026

I have two finishes this week! Yay, me!

First up is my choice for Villa Rosa 6 Quilts in 6 Weeks Challenge. This is quilt 4 for me. I paired fabric from the free table - GIJoe Rise of the Cobra - with the Gingersnap pattern. I was worried that the green/red combo would give off a Christmas-y vibe but I'm liking it!

My second finish is my blue/light leader/ ender project. It took me a long time to settle on a pattern but I was able to sew the blocks and web the top at retreat in April.

WIP Wednesday 5.6.2026

One great thing about the Villa Rosa's patterns is that they 'go together' quickly. Gingersnap was a quick sew. I'm not sure how I'm feeling about the red side border...I just don't want a too Christmas-y feel.

 At retreat, I took a few rwb projects to work on. One was my blue/beige leader and ender. I wasn't exactly sure how I wanted to use my patches but settled on a relatively simple pattern. Here are the blocks being made at retreat.

Here is the flimsy. I was able to web it together at retreat so I was a happy camper! This one measures about 64 x 80 before quilting.

Design Wall Monday 5.4.2026

This is week 5 of the Villa Rosa's 6 Quilts in 6 Weeks Challenge. I had picked up a few stray pieces of 'GI Joe Rise of the Cobra' fabric off the free table and decided to use those pieces in the next Villa Rosa pattern. I chose to make Gingersnap as it uses a few larger chunks of fabric.

I was going to adjust the sizes to make it wider but unfortunately I didn't have enough of the green polka dot. It is a Calico Keepsake print...I actually like 'where' this quilt is heading!

First, I finished my Villa Rosa Birdie October Sky. When I made my Eagle October Sky, I had enough hst's leftover for another quilt. Planning or coincidence? you decide! 😍

I left Lisa Sutherland's Five Stars Over Freedom on the design wall. The flimsy is due to be posted on May 1, 2026, so this will a priority to sew together. I just wasn't sure 'how ' to transport it to retreat, so it stayed home.

Design Wall Monday 4.27.2026

 I had enough leftover hst's from my Eagle October Sky to put together another quilt. I had to search the stash to 'find something' that had yellow, red and blue. I found an older spring bird fabric that was the right amount so I decided to use that as the 'panel'. I also wanted to use up some of the dark purple fabric.

I also started the next challenge quilt for the FB QOV Working Stars group. The pattern selected is Lisa Sutherland's Five Stars Over Freedom, piecing due May1, 2026.

I had made the stars at a sew day last week.
