SoScrappy Saturday 11.30.2024

Today is the fifth Saturday of November of the month of assembly. I did manage to complete my four Meals on Wheels place mats. This month's theme for Table Scraps is trees.

I decided to applique a few trees on a snowflake background and then sew 'tree' fabric to the top and bottom of the place mat.

The upper left place mat I used my snowflake stitch on Baby Brother but I really didn't care for the look of it. So...the other three were sewn with the wavy lines on Baby. :) I did find this green stripe on the free guild table and snagged it for the bindings.

pattern: three applique trees...no formal pattern
quilting: snowflake stitch on upper left

Finish or NOT Friday 11.29.2024

I have a few finishes today! Yea, me!

First up are the little scarecrow hot pads. These cuties finish at 7.5 inches. I totally forgot that they would be smaller than the original cut. Due not only to the quilting but also to my wonky placement of the fabrics and Insul Bright. I ended up with 4 with the light binding and 4 with the dark binding and placed them along my woven table runner. I opted no placemats in the formal dining room this year.

I also put the final stitches in the round Christmas table topper at guild the other day. I didn't realize I had pulled the binding when I was sewing it on...so it does curl just a tad. :)

WIP Wednesday 11.27.2024

I am concentrating on the quilting of my projects. I'm using straight line on Baby Brother.

The wedge quilt.

My little hot pads holders for the Thanksgiving table.

It's also time to pull fabrics for the Meals on Wheels placemats. This month's theme is trees. My friend LexusMary was unloading a bunch of greens so I snapped some up! :)

Design Wall Monday 11.25.2024

With Thanksgiving just around the corner and we are hosting this year, sewing will be limited at best. :)

I unearthed another vintage top under the Christmas fabric basket. This one is only about 8 years old and was a test of a wedge ruler for a wedding Christmas tree skirt gift. I thought i would spray baste it and sew a few lines in the wedges to hold it together. Although it will need bias binding...oh my!

I also had the bright idea that I needed a few Thanksgiving hot pads for the table. Scarecrow fabric, snowflakes, a little green binding and Insule Brite.

Fingers crossed. :)

Slow Stitching Sunday 11.24.2024

It's been a hot second since I hand sewed back a binding!

I found three Christmas themed items from my friend, Cher in the bottom of my cupboard under the basket of Christmas fabrics (which I dragged out to make stockings). Howell MelonHeads were looking for donations for their Christmas party so I offered them to the committee. The committee would quilt them up but then I was responsible for the binding. The items are a table runner, table topper and a small quilt. Cher made the items and then sent them to me in about 2008 or 2009. They definitely have aged quite well...

Here's a sneak peak at one of the bindings.

Finish or NOT Friday 11.22.2024

My finish today is the piecing of the Gumdrops quilt. I still have a few of the Hollow Nines blocks leftover so maybe there might be another Gumdrop in my future. :)

pattern: Gumdrops, found here.

I also quilted down a baby quilt for my friend. Her family is having a 'sprinkle' for her niece on Thanksgiving. She did tell me that a 'sprinkle' is for a second or third baby and not as elaborate as a 'baby shower'. Judi didn't tell me (and I didn't ask!) but I think this might be Elizabeth Hartman's Whale pattern.

pattern: Elizabeth Hartman Whales...I think. or maybe NOT!

Design Wall Monday 11.18.2024

 Ahhh...the best laid plans...

I was going to work on my Meals-on-Wheels placemats for November but thought I would pull out my Hollow Nines and sew it up..real quick like. But, it is NOT going quickly. Oh, well. Time to pivot. :)

I've decided to set the Hollow Nines in the Gumdrops pattern, found here.

Here are a few blocks sewn together.

Here are all the blocks and I pulled a couple of fabrics from the stash as possible borders. I'm going to use white as the sashings and a multi-color for the cornerstones.

Finish or NOT Friday 11.15.2024

Well, technically this is Saturday but I spent all day Friday volunteering at the QOV Booth at the Original Sewing and Quilting Expo that is in town. I always have a fun day meeting and talking to the show's attendees but I was very tired at the end of the day!

I finished QOV Signature Quilt Kilo and turned it in yesterday. I was also able to bring more signed Signature blocks home with me but I haven't unpacked my 'show' bag yet to count them.

I also made the balance of the holiday stocking for the children's donation through the Howell MelonHeads. The stockings are being collecting at the business meeting next Wednesday. I have just a few more items to sew with the Christmas fabrics then I will put them away. :) I was joking about being careful which way one traced the stocking template as that would change the way the 'toe' pointed. Guess what? half way through my sewing...my 'toes' switched directions. :)

Batch 1: All pointed right.

Batch 2: All pointed left.

WIP Wednesday 11.13.2024

I'm making good progress on QOV Signature Quilt Kilo. I decided on a little 4 inch plain border for this one. I hope to get more signature squares after the show this weekend!

pattern: *red, white and blue blocks are cut into 3.0 inch strips, sewn along the
length then cut at 8.0 inches. They finish at 7.5 inch in the quilt.

*alternate squares cut at 8.0 inches

I've been wanting to make a plastic grocery bag holder to transport the plastic bags to the show. My first attempt, I made a French Seam and it is quite small so the second one, I simply zig zag-ed the exposed seam. I followed this tutorial here.

Design Wall Monday 11.11.2024

A heartfelt Thank You to all who have served and are serving our nation and their families!

I pulled and cut to make signature squares for our next Michigan QOV booth this weekend.

Ready to sew!

I also started Signature Quilt Kilo. I thought I had 2 sets of signature squares but I only found one.

Here are the squares on the wall.

The most exciting thing that happened this weekend...I replace the flannel on the design wall! :)

Finish or NOT Friday 11.8.2024

Earlier this year, Rose dropped off two Quilts of Valor for me to quilt. This week was my week to quilt them as next week is the National Sewing and Quilting Expo in Novi, Michigan and Michigan QOV will be hosting a booth again this year!

WIP Wednesday 11.6.2024

I finished piecing the inner portion of the Eagle Staggered panel quilt but I was unsure of the borders.

I finally decided on the simple blue and red borders. I wished I would have had my fabrics in a different order but I do like it. Something a little different for the pillow panels.

Design Wall Monday 11.4.2024

I decided to work on a panel project.

I picked up this pillow panel of eagles that has six panels on the free table at guild.

 I picked out a few 'go with's'.

I'm using this pattern as inspiration.
