Quilting Today
I quilted the Double Hour Glass today.
Tutorial by Cluck.Cluck.
Sew. found here.
Thanks to Chris who gave me some tips on where those eight (yes! eight!) points come together. I had totally neglected that THAT would be happening with this quilt pattern. Next time, I'll press open all the seams to reduce bulk.
I used my new panto~Stars and Crescents by Golden Threads. This is the first panto that I have used that *requires* two passes. I opted to sew the star and lower crescent first then the outer crescent on the second *pass*.

WIP Wednesday
Over the course of the last two days, I made the remaining 24 blocks for the Blue and White Double Hourglass Quilt.
Tutorial by Cluck.Cluck.Sew. found here.
I squared up all the blocks this afternoon. A task made easier with my Christmas gift~a spinning mat! Although on some blocks I forgot to spin the mat and turned the block instead. :)
I ended up with just tiny slivers to trim off the blocks.

Happy Birthday!
Today Bell Creek Quilts is 2!
Did you know that is also National Pie Day?
To celebrate~I am hosting a Give Away!
One prize will be *something* to enjoy with pie...A $20.00 Starbucks gift card and this Starbucks mug. I had thought it was just a cool brown mug but once I got it home and looked a little closer...there is this interesting Mermaid barista! :)
The other prize will be a shoebox of Selvages I have been collecting. I was thinking that I would be making a selvage something or another but, realistically, that won't be happening for me this year but maybe for you! I have an assortment of sizes, lengths and colors.
All you need to do is leave a comment on this post and tell me what you would like if your name is drawn. The first drawn name will receive the birthday gift of their choice and well...the second name drawn will receive the other. For example I would comment:
'Hi! My name is Pat and I currently live in Wisconsin. I would really like to win the Starbucks gift card and mug because I am a serious coffee drinker!'
I'll keep the comments open until next Saturday January 30, 2010 until 10:30 am central standard time (since I do live in Wisconsin!). Then I'll have DD draw them names and announce the winners!
Thanks for celebrating Bell Creek's 2nd Birthday with me! :)

As per one of the rules...no peaking...I will only post a picture of some of the scraps!

Design Wall Monday
I was playing in the sewing room over the weekend as I just had a few minutes here and there to sew on Sunday.
I've been drooling over these kaleidoscope quilts at Elaine's blog. Then Lori has started making some blocks, too. I remembered buying Marti Michell Kaldei-ruler about 5 year ago, so I dug it out. The top blocks are from the Marti Michell ruler. I appear to be pinwheel challenged! and the rings don't exactly line up...oops!
Then as I was putting away another pattern book, I found a tutorial from Starfishy's blog. She calls them Octagon Flowers and I had a smaller kaleidoscope ruler like what Starfishy had used. Those are the middle blocks. The piecing is a little better but still not perfect matches by any stretch of the imagination.
Last up are a few more test squares from Cluck.Cluck.Sew.'s Easy Double Hour Glass tutorial. I'm thinking of making this one in scrappy blues/whites.
Time to put the *play blocks* away and concentrate on my goal for this week! The FAB Challenge is calling my name! :)

Design Wall Monday and Other Things
I've been wanting to try Cluck Cluck Sew's tutorial for Easy Double Hourglass blocks. I was able to sew two blocks out of a single strip set. and of course, my strips started at 2.5 inches!
I also made a QOV pillowcase and a few matching labels. One label will go on the orphan QOV and the others are for future projects. The red stars matches a portion of the back of the orphan QOV.
I also managed to quilt six passes on the last QOV I have at the house. The Signature squares are paired with pinwheels and plain alternate squares this time in a Nine Patch setting. I chose to quilt it with Contempo panto from Willow Leaf Studio. A few more passes and this quilting will be complete! and with a week to spare before the next night guild meeting :)

an Orphan Quilt
Remember this quilt?
It was one of four that I volunteered to quilt last guild meeting~or maybe at the November meeting. In any event, I called the contact name that was with the quilt and she told me that it wasn't her group's quilt!
what?! an Orphan Quilt! at my house!
So in the name of stash busting~I found a tan fabric, made some binding and ta-da, a finished Quilt of Valor. almost. I still need to make a label, sew it on, and make a pillowcase and give it a spin through the washer.

A Pillowcase
I've been hearing a lot about the All People Quilt's Million Pillowcase Drive.
So I decided to print off the directions and make one. I followed the basic pattern. very easy...except I didn't follow the tube method. I sewed straight seams and zig-zagged the seams to enclose them.

My 'Quilter's Code' 2010
Last year, I divided my quilting into categories and that seemed to work well for me. I am also a *list maker*. I take joy in being able to cross items off a list as done! So without further ado, here is
'Pat's Quilting Code of Conduct'
1. Promise Quilts and Things
I have already promised a few quilts to relatives, so this category stays. Recently a niece asked if I would sew her a Messenger Bag for her laptop. Hence, *and Things* added. I also have at least one carry-over quilt from 2009.
2. Gift Quilts
This is one of the main reasons *why* I quilt. Any occasion...birthday, anniversary, end of school, Christmas...I make a quilt. This is a keeper.
3. Donation Quilts and Things
In 2009 I donated quilts to Alycia's No Soldier Forgotten Quilt Drive. In 2009, the Oconomowoc Quilt Guild also started to collect quilts for Quilts of Valor. I'm thinking that the QOV's I make, I'll donate locally this year. I also volunteered to long arm quilt some of the Oconomowoc QOV's. I also hope to be able to make more children's donation quilts this year.
My day guild makes tote bags and comfort pillows for two local hospitals' Breast Cancer Care Units. I hope to continue to make the tote/pillow combination to gift to the patients.
4. Dinosaur Projects
ummm...projects older than the hills. High time that I un-earth some of my dinosaurs (or UFOs) and get them done!
I plan to continue with the weekly Stash Report over at JudyL's Patchwork Times. I like to track the fabric ins/outs. This weekly accounting also helps to curb uncontrolled buying on my part. Although, I have worked through quite a bit of the blenders in the stash~so they will need replenishing. :)
Another post without pictures...sorry...will have to see if I can remedy that by actually *doing something* quilt-y... :)
