WIP Wednesday 3.5.2025

I was excited to sew the final two prompt rows for my 2025 SAHRR Row by Row. I chose pinwheels for prompt 1: use your initial and prompt 2: flying geese for the half square triangle block. I squeaked by with just enough of the sashing and border fabrics. It is approximately 46 x 66 before quilting.

Design Wall Monday 3.3.2025

My next project is the 2025 Stay at Home Round Robin.

When I left it...it was in a very wonky state.

I had not sewn the last four rounds together and was happy for that foresight. I proceeded to take it apart down to the light blue first round. I discovered that the Mountain Majesties was the culprit. They were very wonky and not even the same length! Gee whiz...glad I checked.

At this point, I decided to change my horses mid-stream and direction. I am inspired by Cathy at Sane, Crazy, Crumby Quilting where she picked 5. fabrics as centers and used the prompts as rows to complete the quilts. I am changing this year's SAHRR to a row quilt!

Here are my completed rows...

and with the sashings.

pattern:     row 1:         prompt 5:     Half Log Cabin blocks by Brenda
row 2:         prompt 6:     Kite blocks by Emily
row 3:         prompt 3:     Stars by Gail
row 4:         prompt 4:     Sliced Squares by Wendy

I'm missing two prompts:
*prompt 1: Quilt block using your initial by Kathleen and
*prompt 2: Half Square Triangles by Anja.

I am definitely liking this as a row by row much better! I did put my center and round 1 into the 2025 UFO bin with hopes of sewing out the bin in December.

Another All Wrapped Up In One! 3.1.2025

Finish or NOT Friday:

I completed all my Modified Nine Patch blocks and started placing them on the design wall.

Streak of Lighting:

Horizontal Wave:

Many Trips Around the World:

Barn Raising:

Off Center Barn Raising:

The Off Center is my favorite setting for the Modified Nine Patch so that is the one I went with. It is now at the flimsy stage so this is my addition to Alycia's Finish or NOT Firday.

Today is also the first Saturday of March of the color yellow. This means that I was working on my Mary's Happy Blocks.

Stay At Home Round Robin: Prompt 6

Our host for SAHRR: Prompt 6 is Emily at The Darling Dogwood. Her choice is kite block or any quilt block starting with your first initial. It's okay to repeat the first initial block. I decided to stick with the kite block! I was searching for the 'how' of the making of a kite block and then I remembered that I had purchased the small periwinkle aka kite shape template from Missouri Star Quilt Company to use when I get to my spider web blocks/quilt. A quick search found this tutorial, the Stretched Periwinkle. I simply downsized the measurements to fit a charm/ 5 inch cut square.

In no time, I had a pretty good stack of kite blocks. You might noticed, I didn't take the paper off the template.

I'm still feeling this is a 'hot mess'.

I'm thinking about adaptions/changes to make so I like it more. :)

Design Wall Monday 2.24.2025

Yay!

I felt good to go into the sewing room. I pulled fabric for my next project: Modified Nine Patch. I received the pattern from one of my QOV sewing mates but she didn't give the source so no link. :(
(I first saw and linked this pattern to Quilting Assistant: Mock Trip Around the World block. That link no longer goes to the Quilting Assistant webpage.)

Here are the fabrics.

Here are my sets ready to be sewn into the strip sets.

and while I still felt good...the strip sets sub cut into the units for the blocks!

All Wrapped Up In One 2.22.2025

I am surprised that I am still 'down for the count' after my gall bladder removal surgery. I keep trying to remember that everyone heals at their own pace. That being said, I did accomplish a few items off my list.

Finish or NOT Friday:

My goal was to sew the 4 labels onto the waiting QOV's. Easy peasy, right? This one's been waiting for three weeks...but now! It's done. Next step will be inking the labels.

SoScrappy Saturday:

Today is the fourth Friday of February of the color blue. I also decided to make a few Meals On Wheels place mats. Joy's Table Scraps prompt for February 20025 is neon or bright. I went for bright. The ladies at charity sew really liked this group. Nice and bright for a dreary February! I was hoping Angela would let us know the March 2025 color but...

Stay At Home Round Robin:

Brenda at Songbird Quilts is our hostess for Round 5. Her block of choice is the quarter log cabin. Good thing for me, Brenda included a colored diagram to follow. I did manage to sew 6. I'm actually kind liking this block look.

Here they are with the rest of 'my hot mess'.

Note to self: don't have major surgery in the middle of a quilt design sew-a-long.

WIP Wednesday 2.19.2025

Slowly but surely, I've been working on my February Table Scraps 2025 Challenge. I finished piecing the Meals on Wheels place mats. I decided not to change out the green/blue insert. That place mat looks just a little calmer than the rest. :)

Look! The place mats took a turn being quilted on Baby Brother!

Design Wall Monday 2.17.2025

In the beginning of the month, I made three set of blocks for RSC2025. Now it is time to think about my final project. Last year, I combined the RSC2024 color of the month with the prompt for TableScraps2024. The resulting placemats were then donated to our local Meals on Wheels.

Lest see, February 2025 RSC color is blue and TableScraps 2025 prompt is neon or brights. I starting thinking about a bright-ish background with bright blue strips randomly inserted into the background.

Then I found this!!!

A trip to the JAF, resulting in finding some key components. Unfortunately, I didn't find any 2.5 inch squares I liked for this project. I decided to go with a single fabric as my 'to be sliced'. Here is my fabric draw. On the left are the four 'to be sliced' fabrics, the blue is my bright and the swirly is the background.

Here are my blocks sliced and ready to re-sew.

Here are the blocks, all ready to trim.

All trimmed and ready to sewn into panels.

And here are my panel inserts! I'm surprised at how the green and blue blend so much. The question is...do I change or not?

SoScrappy Saturday 2.15.2025

Today is the third Saturday of February of the color blue. For this week's block, I made a few Split 4 Patch which is Cynthia's current block drive at Quilting is More Fun Than Housework. I found some fun multi-color paint tube fabric to pair with blue. This block drive runs through the end of the month, so there is still a little time to join in! I'm hoping the next block drive works with the RSC2025 colors for March, April and May. :)

pattern: split 4 patch, found here.

ps: I made these blocks before my surgery and already mailed them to Cynthia. :)

Finish or NOT Friday 2.14.2025

My finish this week is a leftover from last week! It's the Cherry Quilt from Casual Quilters. I picked up the pieced center and it had the side border on it with extra matching fabrics. I sewed the matching top/bottom border then added the white also on the top/bottom to give it length. I then found a red I liked from the stash for the outer border. I finished the binding with more of the black cherry fabric.

Stay-At-Home-Round-Robin Prompt 4

Today was the first day since my gall bladder removal surgery that I felt like going into the sewing room. My recovery is a bit slower than I had hoped for but I am trying to listen to my body and not over due.

That being said, I headed to sew the SAHRR Prompt 4. Wendy at Pieceful Thoughts is our host for Prompt 4. Her choice of the block is 'sliced square'. Simply put, 'slice a block, insert something and trim it to size'. A little birdie (Thank you quilting Gail!) hinted that this prompt would work with Week 3 Prompt of stars.
So I made a few sliced squares today and added them to the stars border. I'm waiting till I feel better and when Prompt 5 is released to add onto the quilt top.

second prompt:      use half square triangles...
I took liberties and used Bonnie Hunter's

SoScrappy Saturday 2.8.2025

Today is the second Saturday of February of the color blue. Since I had a few of the 'parts' made, I decided to continue with the 2025 Stash Buster Challenge block. This is a pretty big block...16 inches finished...so I am only making one per month and will decided if I need more later. That's what DD would call 'a future Pat problem'! I'm liking this block more and more as long as I have good contrast between my RSC color.

Blog Pause...

I'm taking a little bit of a sewing and blog pause as I am having outpatient surgery today. It has been determined that my gall bladder needs to be removed. I'm praying for a successful and safe surgery and a quick recovery so I can return to my normal (ok, sewing and quilting!) activities soon. Pat

ps. I do have a SoScrappy post scheduled to appear in the morning. :)
