SoScrappy Saturday 5.31.2025

Today is the fifth Saturday of May of the color green. The prompt for Table Scraps May 2025 is fresh cut grass. How perfect is this combination!

Green and fresh cut grass reminds me of my husband and his old John Deere mower (it was actually a Sabre but still John Deere green). I actually took this picture when he was working on leaves.

He has since upgraded to a Toro Zero Turn mower that is red.

I had used all my John Deere fabric so I did go to the store and buy a yard. I made myself a little table mat for the hearth room side table.

Pattern: 3.5 inch cut center with 2.5 inch cut frames sewn as quilt as you go.

Since I had more John Deere fabric, I made four place mats for the local Meals on Wheels. I changed around the fabric placement and I ended up liking the dark corners best!

pattern: 6.5 inch cut center set on point with 2.5 strips sewn as quilt as you go
rounds. I then trimmed to size and bound.

Finish or NOT Friday 5.30.2025

I have a finish this week. It's the red, tan and blue Sew Quick from Fabric Cafe. I did add 'a little extra' on the top/bottom to make this quilt longer. I've already donated it to the fall Guild Quilt Sale but I think it is right around 48 x 68.

Design Wall Monday 5.26.2025

Today we remember and honor all who joined our military service and paid the ultimate price of US freedom by giving their lives. I'm taking time to be grateful to those men and women in all military service.

I have started a red, white (tan, in this one) and blue quilt. I picked the Tranquility quilt from Fabric Cafe's Make It Modern book.

I made the parts...some wrong. So I picked a few seams apart and re-sewed them.

I started to put the blocks on the wall and realized my mistake! My focus fabric is directional and some blocks are turned upside down...oops.

This has now been banished to 'project prison' to be pulled out at a future date.

Part 2: I gathered more red, white (tan) and blue fabric and this time I am using the Sew Quick pattern by Fabric Cafe.

It is a quick one!

Finish or NOT Friday 5.23.2025

I have 2 finishes this week!

Finish #1 is the 'Who LOOOVES You' quilt.

pattern: Who LOOOVES You

Finish #2 is my Basketweave quilt. This in the 10th quilt for my September trunk show. It's the purple and red fabrics that are cut at 3.5 inches. The gray is cut at 2.0 inches.

Design Wall Monday 5.19.2025

Well, I finally completed the applique and borders on the simple Irish Chain quilt. 9 Patch quilts are the trunk show theme for the MelonHeads meeting on Wednesday 5.28.2025. This quilt is inspired by the quilt, 'Who LOOOVES You'.

pattern inspiration: Who LOOOOVES You

I also want to make a Basketweave quilt. I am using the same purple but pulled out a strong red to replace the pink and grey as my neutral fabric. The plan is to cut the purple/red at 3.5 inches and the grey at 2.0 inches and border both sides of the purple/red WOF to make a 6.5 inch unfinished block. Here are the fabrics, they seem pretty simple.

Here are the blocks on the design wall waiting to be sewn into a flimsy.

SoScrappy Saturday 5.17.2025

Today is the third Saturday of May of the color green.

After some trial and error, I decided to make my hybrid fish block in the RSC color of the month. I'm pretty excited to do this and I had a little catching up to make from previous month's colors. I made red and teal last month and this month I made green, yellow and pink fish. I skipped blue since my background is dark blue but I still might make a few in light blue. Time will tell...

Finish or NOT Friday 5.16.2025

I finished 2 more of my 3.5 in strip quilts!

First up is the Framed Novelty. I was debating if I should re-make this one so that the framing shows up more. I took it to the MelonHeads and the ladies said that they thought it looked just fine. 😍

My second finish is the Vertical Rails. (I'm just kinda doing random names, here.)

WIP Wednesday 5.14.2025

It's been a 'slow go' here at Bell Creek Quilts...

The Irish Chain center is sewn together.

I free cut the tree branch and discovered today that I should have put the fusible on it first to stabilize it. Oh well, the next part is to add some fusible around the edge then raggy edge stitch it down. After that, it will be time for the owl, raggy edge the owl and borders.

pattern: single Irish Chain and Whoo LOOOVES you?

I also quilted down the framing rails quilt. I used the large popcorn pantograpgh. A friend had given me a spool of 40 wt Omni and that is quite a bit thinner than the 40 wt Permacore, so DD is taking the curves with much better tension!

Design Wall Monday 5.12.2025

I decided to work on another 9 patch project while I wait for my backing fabric for the pink/purple quilts to arrive. I absolutely love paisleys and when I saw this blue one...well, you know! I've paired it with a light blue/white polka dot and am making a single Irish Chain. I also have been seeing the quilts with owls applique and I wanted to try it! Here are my fabric draws and inspiration.

pattern: Who LOOOVES You

I made the nine patches and cut the alternate plain block. The paisley will either look great in this or NOT, LOL. I'm reserving judgement until the end.

pattern: Single Irish Chain - public domain

I'm at the point in my leaders and enders that I need to press, so I've been working on that here and there. My next step is to sew the 2-patches into 4-patches. I even got out the travel iron (smaller and lighter) to finish the job. These little patches seem to add up quickly.

My son visited for Mother's Day. We had a nice Mexican lunch and as he was heading home, DH decided to ride along with him. Since DH's crash and cancer diagnosis, he doesn't want to ride alone so I was happy K was willing to ride with him.

SoScrappy Saturday 5.10.2025

Today is the second Saturday of May of the color green.

Time for my 2025 Stash Buster Challenge block. My plaid reads a little on the blue side but I still like it...can't go wrong with plaid. :)

Finish or NOT Friday 5.9.2025

I have one 'Finish' and two 'NOT's.

My finish is one of my pink/purple brick quilts set in the Simple Strips pattern.

pattern inspiration: Christa Quilt's Simple Strip
note: I did cut my fabrics at 3.5 inches, sewed along the
long edge and subcut the strata into 6.5 inch blocks.
panto: serpentine

My 'NOT's are the two birdie quilt flimsies.

This is Flimsy 1. The birds are framed with the pink/purple rail blocks.

This is Flimsy 2. The pink/purple rail blocks are running vertically along the quilt top.

patterns: Both are inspired by Pinterest and both are dead links. :(

My framed birds are sewn into a flimsy.

I sewed together another set of pink/purple rails and paired it with even more of my birds.

I'm noticing a pattern here, are you?!

Design Wall Monday 5.5.2025

I'm continuing with my pink/purple rail fences and I am adding a novelty. This one is an alternate frame of the novelty. I saw a picture on Pinterest that I printed out but it was a dead link.

I've cut and sewed the blocks and here it is on the design wall. I'm thinking I need to join the blocks in rows so it will take a little more attention and time to sew into a flimsy.

pattern inspiration: seen on Pinterest but dead link.
