Stash Report Week #48
My MIL gifted me 8 yards of the cow fabric! The only stipulation is that I make her a table runner from the fabric...I think I can do that! Now to start researching a table runner pattern that will work with the directional cows :)
I also added a yard each of the purple and teals. DD suggested a purple Treasures Quilt for the Christmas exchange with green sashings but when I saw this purple and teal on the sale rack...well, it just followed me home for this project.
Fabric added this week: +10 yards
Fabric added this year: +294 yards
Fabric used this week: -1 yard
Fabric used this year: -398 yards
Net fabric for the year: -104 yards

Some *Me* Sewing
With winter almost upon us, it was time for a winter themed backpack, right? I tried a *new to me* applique technique demonstrated at the Groove Girls club last Monday. A Terry Atkinson take on applique where you layer the applique fabric right side up, the background fabric right side up (the applique fabric is on top of the background fabric)then the applique shape wrong side to wrong side of background fabric. I pinned it all together. really good. You then zig zag around your shape, cut away the extra applique fabric and ta-da, a raggey applique. I left the snowflake raggey, but I could have zig zagged over it for a more finished look. I am now out of the black cording~figures, right?~so I am testing the white cording to *see* how that works. I also made a matching lanyard for my keys since the fabric was out and Baby was threaded with matching thread. :)
I also wanted to try out a new pattern by Terry Atkinson~Stand and Stow. I made mine Christmas-y so when I carry my *stuff* to guild (and wherever) I will be in the holiday spirit. :) This is the medium size tote.

Blue Cypress
Although it was a little cramped at the computer last night, while I listened to the Milwaukee Admirals play the San Antonio Rampage (game results here), I did complete the binding on the Blue Cypress quilt.
Blue Cypress is a free pattern from Lyn Brown, part one here and part two here. If you haven't had a chance to visit with Lyn, please do! She offers many free and interesting patterns. :)
You will not be disappointed!
I do wish, however that I had used more tone on tone prints in this Blue Cypress. Since it uses fq and I cut from yardage, I have enough for another Cypress Quilt already cut and bundled.
panto: Ebb and Flow from Willow Leaf Studio.

Blue Cypress Quilt
When Carin at Margaret's HOPE Chest was looking for a blue hockey quilt ASAP, I began piecing a Cypress Quilt (part one here and part two here) pattern by: Lyn Brown. I was planning on making a white, black and blue hockey quilt but before I could email her and let her know I was working on it, another quilter stepped forward and offered a completed quilt!
Aren't quilters wonderfully generous?!
So I decided to hoard,er save, my hockey fabric and sew the cosmos around the white, black and blue Cypress quilt. Now onto the quilting and binding!
Thanks for visiting and hope you have a fun weekend in whatever you choose to do!

WIP Wednesday
This WIP Wednesday late edition finds me putting the final stitches in my Triple Treat Petite. Pattern from Terry Atkinson's Happy Hour book. This pattern was really straight forward and fast. I think it took longer to quilt, bind and label than piecing! and that's a GOOD THING for a charity quilt. This one is headed to Margaret's HOPE Chest for her Michigan Prison Ministry program.
I also shopped a little...
...enough said...well~no backs in the lot! Will need to head back to the store for more backing fabric. :)

Testing Something New!
Well~can you believe more backpacks?!
Since I had trouble with the grommets, I decided to make a couple of test backpacks using fabric tabs near the bottom of the bag.
DD volunteered to carry one as a test. Hers is on the left which was made from DS's old Star Wars Lego tshirt. Mine is on the right. I was *looking* for something that said *FALL* to me but not Halloween. I couldn't find anything I liked at the store (I know~gasp!) so I dove into the orange and cream scrap box and made 4 Mile-a-Minute blocks. Sashed it in dark brown and used a Sandy Gervais print (I think) that I purchased last year on sale. Not sure anymore what the original thought was with that print but it makes a very nice Fall backpack. :)

Sewing Labels and...
...listening to the Milwaukee Admirals matinee game in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
My house is a *dead zone* so I listen through the computer in the office. 3rd period and we are scoreless!

Working the kinks out of my backpack pattern. I purchased some grommets and this time I am going to try and install them myself. I was concerned about punching through double layers of quilted material so I took my previous backpacks to a local drapery store to have the grommets installed. I think~and hope~I found grommets that I can work!
Know any Milwaukee Admirals or Michigan State fans?! hehehehe...me!
DD and I are *on the glass* for tonight's Ads' game...should be fun! :)
