WIP Wednesday 8.26.2015

I've been sewing on my Shout Color Catcher foundations. I have just let the box of multi-colored scraps sit out by Baby.

I was getting tired of the fabrics so I dug into the monochromatic scraps and cut some from the cabinet -- which was less than 9 inches in length to add a little pizazz to the mix.

I'm thinking once have all the foundations covered than I can move on to Scrap Vortex style blocks, here, here and here.

I also quilted down the Diagonal Beginner quilt, found here.

I went with the Zig Zag as DD said she liked that set.  :)

Design Wall Monday 8.24.2015

My newest quilt is the Strip Pieced Diagonal Beginner Quilt from Reanna Lily Designs, found here.

With a strong diagonal line, I figured I could play around with the layout.

First -- The Diagonal.

Second -- The Zig Zag.

Third -- Trip Around the World

Fourth -- Many Trips Around the World.

The blocks finish at 12 inches so a 4 x 6 set is approximately 48 x 60. My fabric wasn't long enough so I only was able to get 11 sub-cuts out of the strip pieces. (and I mis-cut the first set so I was only able to get 10 blocks…)

Oh Scrap! 8.23.2015

I'm starting to collect a nice pile of the Shout Color Catcher foundation pieced blocks using up more scraps!

Here is the stack of the color catchers that I collected, er, hoarded!  :)

I decided to try and sew 14 a day. Why 14? Well, if I set them vertically, block to block and they are trimmed to 4 1/2 x 91/2 inches…14 x 4 = 48 inches across. Add a border and it will be a generous child throw.  :)

Whoop! Whoop! 8.21.2015

Whoop! Whoop!

I finished the binding on my scrappy String X.

Pattern inspiration: found here.

Note to self: I used Shout Color Catchers as my foundations and trimmed them to 4.5 inch x 9.5 inches. I left the foundations in each quilt block. The black setting triangles are cut 4.75 inches then cut once on the diagonal.

Oh Scrap! X…8.17.2015

It took me all week but I finished my String X quilt to a flimsy!

I first blogged about these blocks here.

The size before quilting is approximately 60 x 72, I took the advice from my blogging friends and made it larger.

Thanks Nancy, Nann and Judy!

What I'm Working On...

The String X quilt is filling in nicely.

Now the question is:

Do I make more blocks and have it finish at 54 x 72

or

do I split the blocks up and make two quilts that are 42 x 60?

Either way, I will need to make more of the string x blocks…

Oh Scrap! X…8.9.2015

When I found my String X blocks from 2011, I decided to piece a few more and make the quilt my August goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes. I have plenty of scraps and this time, my box is some oldies but goodies that are multi-colored!

So I have a few more pieced and ready for the side triangles.

Did you know that Heather at Quilts in the Queue is hosting the 100 Kids for Quilts drive?

Hop on over to Heather's blog to find out the latest. If you pledge a quilt, link up and share then you are entered to win a prize. How great is that? I've participated for a few years and either this scrap quilt or another will be completed and given to a child.

Whoop! Whoop! 8.7.2015

I finished my crumb table mats!

I added three *special* blocks in the blue (diagonal), green (vertical) and purple (horizontal) mats.

An *I*, *heart* and *U*.

The boys aren't very impressed but maybe DD will be!

I thought it was clever…what can I say? That's about as exciting as I get!

WIP Wednesday 8.5.2015

Baby (my Brother sewing machine) and I are working on straight line quilting of my crumb place mats. I decided to raggy edge appliqué a heart in the center square and add a subliminal message to the place mats.

I'm going to wait and see if any family member notices/comments.

My place mat is the yellow one so I only placed a heart in the center.

:)

What I'm Working On...

…a little break from the more organized projects to play in the scrap bins!

This is only a small selection of the blocks I have made in the past few days.

I'm thinking about sewing them together and using as place mats but I wonder if 18 x 18 is too big?!

Still thinking it over…
