WIP Wednesday 1.15.2025

Okay...let's see where I am on my multitude of projects...

First up is the snowman wallhanging. I unpicked the short 4 patch and 'found' more of the red polka dot without having to cut a whole strip. Go me! Here is the flimsy all pieced. It is 37 x 37 before quilting.

 pattern: 6.5 inch focus fabric and 4 patched made with 3.5 inch blocks (well

                        strips.)

The second project is the 'cherry UFO'.  I added the top/bottom black border then a bit of the white cherries to top/bottom to increase the length then a final border. I first had black on the sides but decided to unpick it and replace with red. 

Third, I was working on the MSQC Summer Camp quilt. At the last minute, I changed my black/white hst's with light blue/white hst's. I think this light blue is just not strong enough to stand out amongst my previously loved 2.5 inch strips. Oh well, lesson learned and hopefully passed on to another quilter. :) In the end, this pattern was not picked to share with the Howell MelonHeads.

Design Wall Monday 1.13.2024

 I have a hot mess in the sewing room and lots happening...

First up: remember my snowman fabric fabric draw?

I was intent on creating a wall hanging for the kitchen. Oh, no! That polka dot is a little short so I am one 4 patch short...back to the cutting table.

Second, I picked up a UFO from Casual Quilters' meeting last Thursday night. The quilter, thankfully, included the extra fabric. There are two more framed blocks also. It really is this wonky. :(

Third, I guess I sorta volunteered to make a practice quilt for my day guild. Since one choice is the MSQC's Summer Camp and it's be on my *wish list* for a spell I decided to dive in. I went to my previously unloved bin of leftover 2.5 inch strips. I was going to use black and white for the hst's but then decided on light blue with varoius prints that have a white background. (Which I could never find a home for.) I hope I don't regret these decisions...

Stay at Home Round Robin 11.13.2025

Today is the kickoff for the 2025 the Stay at Home Round Robin (SAHRR) over at Quilting Gail's blog! 

Time to show our center block. This will be what I add my rounds (or borders) to in order to create the medallion style quilt. I've decided to use a RWB 2025 Stash Buster Challenge block. This is a large block and will finish at 16 inches in the quilt.

SoScrappy Saturday 1.11.2025

Today is the second Saturday of the color pink, but first...

I finished my 2024 Stash Buster Challenge quilt earlier in the week. I like how it turned out but I have enough main checkerboard blocks for another quilt. I really need to learn, 'less blocks are okay' when making the RSC blocks! :)

I haven't decided on my other blocks but MarilynE, our program director at The MelonHeads, wanted to 'see' the 2025 Stash Buster Challenge block. So I made one up in pinks. This is the BIG block and will finish at 16 inches.

Quilting Gail will be starting the 2025 Stay-at-Home-Round-Robin soon, so I made one up in RWB. This one was a little quicker make as I had most of the parts either already sewn together or cut.  (4 patches were leader enders, 2.5 x 4.5 white are from the potato chip block bin and I always seem to have a supply of 2.5 inch squares) I only had to cut the dark blue and light blue centers. It will be my center block.

Finish or NOT Friday 1.10.2025

Whew!

I had enough snowman/penguin to re-cut for place mats. I decided just on a 'wholecloth' type front with the red polka dots as the back. I've been wanting to try facing a quilt since I saw examples of 'facing' last spring (spring 2024!)

pattern: wholecloth cut at 19 x 13 and cut to 18.5 x 12.5 after quilted

quilting: wavy lines on Baby Brother

            note to self: I cut my facing at 2.0 inches, pressed then cut 2 at 12.5 inches

                                 and 2 at 18.0 inches. I places the sides first and top/bottom 

                                second before sewing at 1/4 inch from edge.

I'm going to take Baby Brother into the spa. She's having some tension issues.

My other finish is that I completed the quilting on a Casual Quilters' QOV.

pattern: no information given but...

                bricks are cut 3.5 in x 6.5 inches with every other row has 1/2 bricks 

                on the ends.

WIP Wednesday 1.8.2025

 I pulled some fabrics to go with the snowman and penguin fabric for place mats.

oh no! I cut the fabric wrong...back to the cutting station. Good thing that I brought extra. :)

Design Wall Monday 1.6.2025

Not really a design wall but I did put my 2024 Rainbow Stash Buster on the frame and quilted it!

Yesterday was spent putting away the Christmas decorations. We affectionately call it 'de-frocking' here at Bell Creek Quilts. Just a few items remain, like my Santa dishes that have jello in them. LOL I did leave my new lighted 4 foot tree up and strung my crumb heart ornaments on it. Looks like I will need to make some sort of skirt for it...if I plan to have the tree as decor all through the year.

SoScrappy Saturday 1.4.2025

Today is the first Saturday of January of the color pink. Since I still have a stack of 4.5 inch novelties, I decided to carry over Mary Johnson's Happy Blocks for another year. (I also have a stack waiting to be pieced into tops!) I'm trying the less is okay with the RSC blocks...we'll see how I do!

Finish or NOT Friday 1.3.2025

My first Finish or NOT Friday of 2025 and I'll take a 'sorta'. LOL I finished piecing my 2024 Stash Buster Challenge blocks. I also stay-stitched the outer edges of the top as I am not going to add any borders. It already measures 53 x 68, so a good nap size. It will loose a little length when it is quilted. I was really hoping my new pantograph would arrive in the mail today but alas, not. So I guess that is another NOT today. :) The pantograph is called Cindy's Water and it's a converging wave design, found here.

I finished sewing the alternate blocks for my 2024 Rainbow Scrap Buster Challenge! Just in the knick of time. The only requirement to meet the challenge, as far as I can tell, is to have 52 blocks pieced before the 'times up' post on the FB Stash Buster Challenge page. 

Here are a few of the alternate blocks with the main blocks that I pieced through out the 2024. 

Here are my 63 blocks. I did chain piece the alternate blocks. I did change out the top left pink corner for an orange block. I still have lots of blocks leftover but into the orphan bin they will go for 2025.

I really enjoy the rainbow quilts and January 2025's color is pink. :)
