I was trying to think of something to give my friend, Mara for her birthday. DUH~how 'bout a quilt?! Mara's family makes quilts but mostly the tied variety and she has admired the quilting of my quilts in the past. On the first Saturday in February, I meet up with the members of the Charity Quilt arm of the Oconomowoc Quilters to cut and kit quilts for donations. One of the patterns was this Big Brick pattern from AZ Blankets.
I know Mara loves flowers so I went into the flower stash and cut some bricks. I modified the pattern by adding one brick to each row and two more rows to the length. I decided I wanted it wider so I added the green border. It does make it a little long~but Mara's bf is over 6 foot tall so he should be able to wrap up in it too! and I am sure that the flowers won't bother him! LOL.
I tried to get a close up of the quilting but it just doesn't show. :(

It's a FLIMSY!
I decided to add three borders to the My Blue Heaven quilt to bring it up to size. It's a little hard to see in the picture but there is a beige inner border followed by a border of blue squares then a final beige border. I'm so happy to get this UFO so far along!
Thanks to Nancy for the suggestion of red red star!

Design Wall Monday
Currently on the Deign Wall~I finished the blocks for MY BLUE HEAVEN! It was a struggle for me as I generally stick to patterns with blocks and rectangles! Now I KNOW why~less frustration for me and a more enjoyable time creating the quilts. :)
Thanks to my friend, Nancy who suggested one red star as a focal point. I'm really liking it~thanks for the great suggestion! :)

I decided to dig out my BLUE HEAVEN UFO. I think I have had it listed on my *to Sew* list for about a year! I started this quilt with Bonnie Hunter when she visited Wisconsin in November 2008. and yes! it has been over 4 years that this has been marinating in the sewing room~oh my gosh.
First I finished the Puss in the Corner blocks. Here they are up on the design wall with some of the star blocks that were stashed in the UFO bag.
Today I worked on the parts for the star blocks. I'm aiming for it to be QOV size (I like to make the QOV's 55 x 72). Hopefully, I will be able to sew all the star blocks together.
I also have a binding to attach and sew back. Sew~I am back at it! :)

A Sunday Treat
During the season when the Milwaukee Admirals have an Autograph Corner, I take a sweet treat for my friend Theresa (scroll down to find T!) and the two players in the Corner. I have been using a small gift bag but they have been ripping~I'm not very gentle with the bags! ie, I shove them under my seat, etc. etc. etc.
So I dug out my Screenplay Bag pattern by Nancy Ota and sewed one up! I didn't exactly follow the instructions but it's pretty close! I had even un-earthed my pet screen from about 6 years ago! I sometimes LOVE that I never throw anything out! lol
DS suggested I embellish with buttons (and a key chain) of my favorite players. On the left, Jonathon Blum. Center, my DD! and on the right, Scott Valentine. Well only DD is my favorite~I just happen to have the other two players...
Here is one of the sweet treats I baked. Strawberry Chocolate Chip cookies. This is the second season I have been making cookies so I am on the look out for unusual (and easy) recipes. :)
Recipe found here.
DD is red #12...

I quilted it with the Lorien Halcyon panto, found here, in a rwb variegated thread. First time to use the variegated thread...
Next up: The Snake Charmer quilt. Pattern found here.
I quilted it with the Angel Wings panto, found here. I was kinda stretching it a bit~snakes, flower patterns, butterflies~see? all found in the garden...let's JUST go with it, okay?!

WIP Wednesday
I found 5 of these February/ March table toppers in the closet.
So I made 2 more to put under the lamps in the family room. That meant that I could use 4 as February place mats with one leftover! So I put the leftover one on my night stand under my clock, phone and glasses!
But guess who noticed he didn't HAVE a table topper on HIS night stand?! Right! DH! and I thought he didn't notice the little things! lol.
off to the sewing room to see what I can find in the orphan block box. Until later.....
pattern: my friend, Deb had shared her pattern at guild in 2009.
