Whoop! Whoop! 3.13.2015

My Whoop! Whoop! is sewing related…

DD has been accepted onto our Church Mission Team for 2015! This group will be traveling to Swaziland, South Africa as part of the Children's Cup Mission Team. She is one of three minors selected on the team of 18. Wowza, right?!

Last time a Mission Team went to Swaziland, they asked for beanie babies to distribute to the children. This time, the team has asked for pillowcases dresses (girls) and pillowcase shorts (boys). A small group of ladies got together earlier in the week to *figure out* the best way to make the dresses.

Of course, I had to come home and right to the sewing room.

Here is my result. I had brought some pillowcases at the big box stores to experiment with and on Wednesday, I went to St. Vincent de Paul and a Goodwill to try and find gently used pillowcases.

:)

I just love a good challenge!

There are many tutorials for the pillowcases dresses on the web. This one from the Little Dresses for Africa website and this one from Nancy's Notions.  There are a few modifications to the directions for this finished dress but I usually modify quilt patterns, too!

Wonder how many dresses I will be able to make between now and when the Team departs at the end of July???

The dress is darling and for such a great cause. I'm guessing you will have 20+ dresses by July.

Love your dresses! These are so fast to make that I'll bet you have tons to take with you! Especially if you have help!
