WIP Wednesday 10.30.2024

I finished piecing the yellow and black baby quilt.

pattern: Indian hatchet block: public domain

DD was supposed to have received her package with the label parts but so far, she hasn't seen it. There now, isn't time to finish it and have it mailed to the Mom-to-be by Saturday's Baby Shower. I'm a little sad that my package hasn't made it to DD. I even had a loaf of pumpkin bread in it. :(

Design Wall Monday 10.28.2024

DD asked if I would make a baby quilt for her college roommate. The baby shower is this Saturday, November 1st! and could it be the size I make for the Christmas parties?! uh...

Those quilts are about 60 x 80. That's a little large for a baby quilt but I would make one that is 55 x 72. It's just a tad smaller but still a good size for tummy time. The Mom-to-be favorite color is yellow and yellow is considered gender neutral...that is what DD wants. She also suggested black as an accent and nothing 'baby-ish'.

DD drives a hard bargain. LOL

She chose the Indian hatchet block with various shades of yellow as the main blocks and yup!, black as the triangles. I found this one on Pinterest:

I did go to the store as my yellows were depleted from RSC. This is my starting point. I did decide to cut the yellows at 6.5 inches and the black at 2.5 inches.

Here are a few of the blocks on the design wall.

SoScrappy Saturday 10.26.2024

Today is the fourth Saturday of October. The RSC color of the month (for me!) is brown and the Table Scraps2024 prompt was cats. YES!

I've been wanting to make Cat City from Villa Rosa for a long time and this is the perfect time.

Quick as a wink, I made a few left facing cats and right facing cats.

Next, here are the pairings.

I added enough background to make the Michigan Meals on Wheels place mat requirements.

Then I did some stitching to hold them altogether, added the binding and ta-da!

Finish or NOT Friday 10.25.2024

I've been in a bit of a sewing slump...well, a lot. Very low motivation to start and/or finish anything. Looks like I will miss a few of my own deadlines. yikes! Before my slump, I did finish the little baby quilt in my previous post. The D4P blocks were all sewn together as a UFO on the 'free table'. So, I picked it up and put on a little border, quilted and bound it. Now, this cutie is ready to be donated to the local WIC (Women in Crisis) Center.

I did follow DH to his parent's property in northern lower Michigan. FIL said that we could park the motorhome in his motorhome shed as they no longer have a motorhome. First the wash:

Then the shoehorn! FIL wanted to park his 'dump' trailer in the shed, too but there is not enough room. By this time it was already on wooden blocks and the decision was made NOT to center it.

Design Wall Monday 10.14.2024

I don't have very much to report. I did pull out the little D4P I picked up off the guild free table and decided it needed a little border, but which one?

I did decide on the darker brown. :)

Finish or NOT Friday 10.11.2024

I have a finish or two this week! Go Me!

First, I finished a few more stockings for my collection. I'm up to 5 made now. I picked up a package of green and red bias tape, so now I can add hangers. :)

pattern: shared by Yvonne at MelonHeads guild but no pattern info given.

Second, I finished the Eagle panel with the Pineapple Blossom blocks. I sorta wished I had made full blossoms instead of the half blossoms but I still like this one.

Third, I finished the Bev's Star quilt. I had 9 of the stars partially completes so I made one more for an even 10!

WIP Wednesday 10.9.2024

I had a few Creative Grids Strippy Stars (12.5 inch unfinished) started in various stages, so I decided to finished them up. I had 9 stars started so I made one more for an even 10.

I wasn't sure on the inner border to go with the stars outer border.

In the end, I decided I liked the lighter blue as the inner border.

Design Wall Monday 10.7.2024

I had a few girls at day guild ask if I could 'show' how to make Bonnie Hunter's Pineapple Blossom blocks. I pulled out my 'in process' blocks and finished them up as examples. I then found an eagle panel to pair the blocks with. This will be a smaller quilt as the day guild 'likes' smaller veteran's quilts.

This one is about 48 x 65 before quilting.

I took the dust cover off of DD, oiled her up, change the needle and thread...guess what? Long uneven stitches...yikes. I guess two weeks off was not a good thing. :(   I'll be trying to fix what ails the old girl in the morning...

SoScrappy Saturday 10.5.2024

Today is the first Saturday of October. This month is sewer's choice for the colorway. Angela suggests more darks if you need some, more lights/low volume if that is needed or just pull out your blocks and assess 'where' your block colors 'need' to go. This month I am going to concentrate on browns for my blocks/project.

Here are my brown Happy Blocks. I just used the blocks as they were in the pile but I guess I should have stayed with the lighter backgrounds. In any event, it will work.
