WIP Wednesday 6.18.2025

My novelty with bricks project is sewn into a flimsy. This was a really fast sew as I already had the novelties cut into 6.5 inch squares. (Bricks are cut at 3.5 x 6.5 inches)

I did a deep dive into the novelty box again and found a few I hadn't used before and this time I am pairing the novelties with a dark gray/light gray 3.5 inch square chip.

Design Wall Monday 6.16.2025

A new week and a new 3.5 x 6.5 inch brick quilt design (to me). I'm pairing grey bricks with boy-ish novelties. This is another design I saw on Pinterest that led to a dead link.

I think I might have spent more time cutting the bricks than sewing this one!

SoScrappy Saturday 6.14.2025

Today is the second Saturday of June of the color orange.

Here are all my blocks so far this year. I'm planning white sashing with black cornerstones when finishing the flimsy. I think I want 12 blocks so I may have to repeat a few colors. I do believe that the colors left for this year are purple, dark green, dark blue, tan/brown and black. I made teal at the wrong time so I'm ahead on the teal blocks.

Design Wall Monday 6.9.2025

The pink/brown 4 patch novelty is now a flimsy.

I still want to make the 4 patch kitty quilt. I was heading to Micheal's (they acquired the JoAnn Fabric's brands) to find a bright pink and green for a few of my projects. But then I decided that I liked the pink/green together.

I made the pink/green 4 patches and here it it on the design wall waiting to be sewn into a flimsy. I decided 'to just go with' and move on...

Finish or NOT Friday 6.6.2025

I'll have to take a big ole NOT this week!

I woke up the piecing part of the sewing room by plugging in my power strip to my iron and Baby (my piecing machine). I also swapped out the darker novelties with lighter background novelties. Now I think I am ready to sew it together into a flimsy.

WIP Wednesday 6.4.2025

Today I am traveling back to Bell Creek Quilts. I'm in my car and it looks like a rainy travel day. But...we had beautiful weather here in Milwaukee!

DD's birthday wish was a day in Chicago! So on Monday, we rode the train to Chicago and spent the day sightseeing. We first went to the Shedd Aquarium. She especially likes the Deep Ocean displays. Whales, sharks and dolphins. I like the Icy Cold display...penguins! We also both enjoy the jelly fish. We also walked through the Great Lakes display. Her BF is a fisherman so she was checking out the fish he fishes!

We then walked across the courtyard to the Field Museum. DD wanted to see Sue the T-Rex, the gemstone displays and the African fashion. We did run out of time and didn't walk thru the African displays. We went in the back door so when we left, we went out the front to enjoy the magic of the building.

In my time away from DD, I worked on sorting and cutting my green scrap bin. I did stay up a little late last night and finished this chore. I am now ready to make my very own green Duckworth quilt but that will be a few weeks from now. 😍

Here is BooBoo with the empty bin. Yea! I did pile my organized scraps back into it so the bin was only empty for about 5 minutes!

Here is my pile of organized and pressed green scraps. Yea! I separated the scraps into pieces smaller than 2.0 inches, pieces that are 2.0 inches, 2.5 inches and greater than 3 inches. I also have a pile of bigger chucks that could be backing...if I was feeling creative. In the front are wacky pieced crumbs that I had left in my bin. All the way on the right, is my pile of cut-off and pieces less than 1.0 inch.

Design Wall Monday 6.2.2025

I'm actually in Milwaukee visiting DD for her 26th birthday but I did sew ahead a little bit to share.

I started a pink and brown set of 4 patches using the 3.5 inch strips. Here are the fabrics I was thinking about using.

The 4 patches are the easy part of my design. I picked cats because I feel cats have been neglected at Bell Creek Quilts...

The 4 patches on the design wall...

...and with the cats.

Oh! I'm NOT liking this. So I pulled the cats off and dipped into my ISPY stash.

Oh! I'm NOT crazy about this either. This is how I left the sewing room and this is how I will find it when I return. So I won't have anything to share. :(

Our bear BooBoo made the trip with me and I brought my bin of green scraps. In my spare time at the hotel, I've been pressing and cutting my scraps. I usually just use the scraps as is from my bins but this time I want to make a Duckworth Scrap quilt (see you tube video here and a blog post here). I first 'saw a Duckworth' on FB Scrap Quilt Enthusiasts Group...it's a private group so I can't link to it.) A Duckworth needs a little more controlled organization than I usually do. :)
