Summer 2011 *To Sew* List
I am dividing my list into three categories this quarter: personal, donation and blocks. So here we go!
Personal:
grocery bags
Oconomowoc ugly fabric challenge
QOV B
4 QOV pillowcases
MHC A
MHC B
dryer sheet
Short and sweet. I also want to make cards that I will need throughout the year this summer. We'll *see* how I do! :)

Summer Solstice
June 21, 2011 is the official beginning of summer with the summer solstice.
Image from here.
Time for me to review my Spring 2011 Sewing Goals and set my Summer Goals.
As you can *see* from my List, I finished some projects but not others. I'm thinking for Summer 2011~it will be a time to catch up and finish a few projects! One of these projects has been hanging around on my list forever! Time to get it done! :)

Happy Belated Father's Day
I made Father's Day cards for DH and Grandpa.
First: DH's card with $1.00
Second: Grandpa's card with $20.00
I simply Google Search: *How to Fold a Dollar Bill into a Shirt* for directions. There are at least a page of choices for directions.

Happy Belated Birthday Cher
Last night, my online quilting group~the FAB's~were able to get together for Cher's Belated Birthday Party and gift opening. The 2011 FAB Challenge is to make a gift for each member's birthday!
My gifts to Cher were three pillowslip covers (only one pictured here) inspired by Allison at Cluck Cluck Sew. I had made Cher three Fall pillowslip covers last Fall in one of our 2010 FAB Challenges. So now, she can change out her pillowslip covers with the seasons. Well~she is missing winter. lol.
original tutorial is found here.
I also included a water bottle cover made from a Groovy Girl pattern I received earlier in the year. It is a Terry Atkinson design that was included in her Groovy Girl class that I took at The Quilted Basket quilt shop.

WIP Wednesday
Yay! The Disappearing 4 Patch is complete! In time for the Graduation Party on Saturday, June 18th. Which, btw, is my Mom's 89th birthday! Her birthday wish?! A visit from her children! I am also going to give her a pile of $ingles so that she will be able to tip her hair dresser. Mom says she has already *used* the pile of $ingles we gave her at Christmas. Shhh...don't spill the beans! :)
D4P tutorial may be found here. I saw on my trolls through the web that there is a Disappearing 16 Patch...ummm...might have to give that one a try too!
The Curly Heart panto. Seriously, once the long arm is fixed~I really need to change out this panto. But it is so much fun! and thread easy!
A Michigan State pillowcase~all from stash. I know~sometimes the stash is a good thing. and this is not the same MSU fabric that is on the back of the quit! :)
ps. Gotta LOVE that my *holder* is home on summer vacation! Wonder how many quilts and things she will hold for me until she gets *tired* of it?! Thanks DD! :)

Design Wall Tuesday
This is as far as I have gotten on the All People Quilt pattern, Skinny Strips. So far, I am not loving it. Hey, I'm not even liking it! and I am seriously considering abandoning this pattern and trying something totally different with my 2.5 inch strips. I am thinking that sewing many straight seams at 61 inches will test my sanity! :) well~what little I have left! lol. Back to sewing the binding on the D4p~it's due to be gifted this weekend! :)

Card Making (and not very QUILTY!)
I have two High School Graduation parties to attend this month in Michigan. So I have been playing in the card making stash this week! My Mom also asked that I make a card for her to give.
First up: a money holder card for our niece who wished for ca$h and not a quilt. Tutorial found here. I had to make some adjustments as I didn't have the slit punch or many *graduation* stamps. DD and I were at the scrap booking store so I brought a sticker set that worked nicely in these cards.
Second: A more traditional card inspired by the sketch at Mojo Monday. I made a few adjustments so it would fit into a traditional envelope.
Third: Another traditional card.
Fourth: A money holder card. Unfortunately, I made it to fit into a regular envelope but you have to fold the ca$h or check inside the card. :( Directions found here.
Fifth: A money holder card. This one I made longer. Better for the ca$h but doesn't fill the envelope.
Sixth: Thought I would switch to a money holder Birthday card. I made it a little taller~well~as tall as would work for the 8 1/2 inch piece of card stock. :) This is better~but there is still some empty space in the envelope. A work in progress that is developing. I did search the web and found that a monarch size envelope would work for the money holder cards but I wonder if it would mail for 44 cents?!
On the quilty front: I quilted the green and white D4P but my tensioner spring snapped off on the longarm~need to order a new one and replace it before more quilting will happen. :)

Design Table Monday
While I wait for my Michigan State backing fabric to arrive, I pulled for another project.
My friend, LindaJ found this pattern, Skinny Strips Quilt on the All People Quilt site and I thought it would work as my next QOV. I already had the blue cut into 2.5 inch strips and found this gold in the stash. The pattern calls for 3 yards of the tone-on-tone and I am just shy of that. I was able to cut the 37~2.5 inch strips of gold but will need to bind in another fabric...most likely a scrappy blue binding. I will need to make a few other cutting adjustments as my gold doesn't measure the full 42 inches the pattern calls for...oh well. The quilt will either be a bit narrower or the blue strips a bit longer in the finished piece. Either way, just a minor adjustment! and I need minor after my Disappearing Pinwheel and D4P! :)
