Design Wall Monday 4.28.2025

I've sewn another set of blocks for my pink/purple series of rail fence quilts. This one will be a 'traditional' trailing rail...well, that's what I call it. :)

Now to sew it into a flimsy.

SoScrappy Saturday 4.26.2025

Today is the fourth Saturday of April of the color red.

It is also time to reveal my Table Scraps April challenge. The prompt is rain. Red and rain. Uh-oh, I'm in trouble because all month long I am stuck on red umbrellas...

I finally gave in and made a little mat for my hearth room planter turned into a side table. First I found an umbrella to applique on Pinterest. Thank you to Simple Mom Project. I had some rain type fabric in my closet, black with fusible on it and a red fat quarter. I'm ready!

Snip, snip. Iron, iron. Diagonally quilting on Baby and ta-da!

My newest umbrella mat on the design wall.

Now, the mat is out in the wild. 😍 I squared it up to 8.5 inches and it's a little big for the space. I need to remember to make the next mat smaller! LOL

Finish or NOT Friday 4.25.2025

Earlier in the week, I finished the binding (by machine!) on the Beth Dutton quilt. I think she is beautiful in her simplicity. 😍

Earlier today, I finished the binding (by machine, again!) on the 2 color rail fence. This is the first in a series I am making for my 3.5 inch strip trunk show. I decided to make this set of quilt a little smaller (48 x 60) so the 'making' would be faster. 😍

(truth: I cut 3.5 wide pink/purple then sewed together on the
long side then subcut into 6.5 inch units. I then assembled
                        the blocks.)

WIP Wednesday 4.23.2025

I decided on the windmill setting for the first 2 color rail fence. I sewed 4 blocks together first.

I then sewed the rows together. This flimsy is approximately 48.5 x 60.5 inches before quilting.

Design Wall Monday 4.21.2025

I've met my goal of getting the Beth Dutton on the frame and I even found time to quilt it down!

I've started on the two-color rail fence quilts. I brought a bolt of pink and purple and thought that I would make all the same block but just twist and turn the blocks for the different settings. I'm hoping that this approach will make it easier to understand for my guild-mates.

Here are the segments for my first setting.

SoScrappy Saturday 4.19.2025

Today is the third Saturday of April of the color red.

I was playing around with making fish (not on point) and before I knew it, I had a little school of red and teal fish! I'm thinking about making more and sharing a finished quilt at guild's Beach Day Party in July...maybe...

pattern: a combination of various tutorials found on Pinterest.

Update:

I pieced the Beth Dutton into a flimsy but wouldn't you know it? My background greys are from two different dye lots. 'I hate it when that happens!'

Finish or NOT Friday 4.18.2025

I was gone sewing two days this week, so not a whole lot of progress in the sewing room.

First, I quilted and bound the purple and green 3 rail fence. This is a good thing because I have one more completed for my September trunk show.

I also cut the grey squares for the Beth Dutton quilt. I think the grey might be a little light but I'm going with it. :) My goal is to get it sewn together and pinned to the frame so I can quilt it next week. That means...I need to stay home, right?!

WIP Wednesday 4.16.2025

I am making more progress in the sewing room!

My three color rail fence using 3.5 inch strip sets is now a flimsy.

I pulled out another project. May 2025 at the MelonHeads is 9 Patch month so I am re-creating Beth Dutton's quilt.

I'm making it for my son, who mentioned that he streams Yellowstone. My mind went immediately to this picture. I am making it with 3.5 inch (cut) strip sets to it can also be shown in my September trunk show. I realize that Beth's quilt is scrappy but my son doesn't like scrappy. The scrappy chaos bothers his 'OCD' tendencies. :)

Here is my fabric pull.

Here are the completed strip sets, waiting to be sewn into blocks.

and Ta-Da!

pattern: Beth Dutton.
I used 3.5 cut strips of red/black. Sewed together along the long side in
                    order above.

                    I cut the sub-sets at 3.5 inches. This yields a 9.5 inch un-finished block.

I did find this nifty table on Karen Browns' Just Get It Done website. It does all the calculations for you as to the size of the quilt (without borders) with many different size finished squares. This is definitely a great chart to have in your wheel house.

Design Wall Monday 4.14.2025

I'm starting a purple 3 fabric rail fence for my strip project. Here are the fabrics I was going to use but at the last minute I switched to a darker purple on the right.

The rails are made and I'm auditioning borders.

pattern: 3 Fabric Rail Fence: public domain
I cut my strips at 3.5 inches, sewed strata along long edges and cut
                    at 9.5 inch blocks.

SoScrappy Saturday 4.12.2025

Today is the second Saturday of April of the color red.

Time for the 2025 Stash Buster block! I was a little worried about the contrast with my reds, but I like it.

Finish or NOT Friday 4.11.2025

I had a productive week in the sewing room. 😍

The first finish is my Tiger's quilt. I needed to be a little creative with the fabric I had available. It's a little bit of a mish-mash but I like it.

pattern inspiration: found here on Pinterest
panto: serpentine

My second finish is the bricks that didn't work for my Tiger's quilt. I didn't want to put the blocks aside so I decided to make a quick little quilt.

pattern inspiration: Christa'a Quilts Simple Strips
I used my 3.5 x 6.5 inch cut bricks and made the blocks
                                        12.5 x 12.5 inches unfinished.
panto: Angel Wings (in orange! it blends beautifully)

My third for the week is a 'NOT' Finish but is a flimsy. It's my Golfing FQ quilt, it seems fitting as this is Master's Weekend. I opted for the extra border to make it more suitable for an adult.

WIP Wednesday 4.9.2025

I have a mixed bag of happenings in the sewing room.

I finished piecing the leftover blue/orange bricks to a flimsy. It measures approximately 48 x 60 before quilting. The nex step is to locate a backing that I like. :)

pattern: alternating blue and orange 3.5 x 6.5 inch cut bricks
(I haven't run across this patten with a name - if you know it's name...
                    please leave a comment.)

Today is binding day for my Tigers quilt. Soon, I will be able to snuggle under it while I watch the games on TV.

I volunteered to make a Fat Quarter Quilt for the FQ Demo at the MelonHeads...next week. Eh gads, I better get on this. :). I decided to use the Villa Rosa Dulcie pattern as it only needed 5 fq's. I don't 'normally' buy fq's but the local quilt shop was having a sale. I found 4 golfing co-ordinates and ordered the 5th online. Here are the fabrics, the 5th is the stripe in the middle. The light blue will be the background and the other two I pulled from stash as possible 'go-with's'.

I started cutting the yardage and fq's. It should go pretty quick.

Design Wall Monday 4.7.2025

I decided to take the rails from my Tiger quilt that I didn't like and sew them into a little quilt. I first blogged about the Tiger quilt here. I needed more rails so here are a few of the pieces ready to sew together.

Looks like I am one block short of starting to sew the top together!

pattern: bricks cut at 3.5 x 6.5 inches then alternate orientation

SoScrappy Saturday 4.5.2025

Today is the first Saturday of April of the color red! I originally thought the color was teal (like a few others) but then switched to red after Angela's post on April 1st...no fooling. :)

Here are my Happy Blocks for April. They really are a quick sew so now I am just ahead of the curve for the teal month. :) I noticed that I have more dog fabric than cat...I'll need to keep my eyes out for cats.
