I am making more progress in the sewing room!
My three color rail fence using 3.5 inch strip sets is now a flimsy.
Here is my fabric pull.
Here are the completed strip sets, waiting to be sewn into blocks.
and Ta-Da!
pattern: Beth Dutton.
I used 3.5 cut strips of red/black. Sewed together along the long side in
order above.
I cut the sub-sets at 3.5 inches. This yields a 9.5 inch un-finished block.
I did find this nifty table on Karen Browns' Just Get It Done website. It does all the calculations for you as to the size of the quilt (without borders) with many different size finished squares. This is definitely a great chart to have in your wheel house.

Your rail fence looks lovely, I like simple patterns which look so effective. I havent done one of these for such a long time.
Your purple rail fence is lovely, Pat! I like that spring green border. Looks like your 9 patch quilt project is off to a good start, too. That chart from Karen Brown is very handy!
Love that rail fence! And I am sure your son will like the one you're making for him.
The green border on your rail fence is perfect with the purples. The fabrics you selected for the Beth Dutton quilt are very nice and masculine. I'm sure your son is going to LOVE it.
The new quilt is looking like a great plan!
Lovely purple quilt! I watch Yellowstone too but I guess I was too involved in the story to notice that quilt. Sure is pretty! I'm sure your son will love his. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.
