SoScrappy Saturday 10.17.2026

Today is the third Saturday of October of neutrals.

I have another field of sunflowers! This time I made the Meals-on-Wheels place mats and the brown binding is my neutral for this week. I did have enough left over to make a travel mat for Baby Brother!

pattern: 2 yards of sunflowers cut into 12.5 x 15.5 inches (4)
not sure of the size of my travel mat <grin>
panto: large meander

Finish or NOT Friday 10.16.2026

My finish today is my gift bags. At retreat (next week!) there is a small group that exchanges gifts. My main gift is this little bag I made out of sewing material.

My change is that I decided to make the handle strap out of the same
sewing material. I cut my strap at 3.5 inches wide and 28 inches long.
the D-ring measures 1 inch across

Of course, I wanted to fill my little bags!

First item in the bag is lip balm holder.

pattern: It's from a FB link that fit the lobster clips I had. Also you fold the main
body on itself so it doesn't use fusible.

The next item is a cord holder.

pattern: I used a combination of tutorials found on the web. I ended up drawing my
own template. This one used a fusible.

The next item is candy! Halloween M&M peanuts! One of my favorites!

Last year, I gave Princess Ducks. This year, I really liked the Pumpkin Ducks from Target but they only had a few so I supplemented with purple ducks with candy corn.

Design Wall Monday 10.12.2026

When I saw October's picture in my Michigan calendar, I thought it would look kinda cool as a quilted wallhanging.

I was going to make 'the bat' an all black fabric and 'the ghost' all white.

But wait...I'm giving a crumb chaos block demo...so I decided to make crumb blocks as 'the bat and ghost'.

Hummmm...the jury is out whether I like this or not...

It just might be an example 'of what NOT to do'...

Finish or NOT Friday 10.9.2026

My finish this week is my Rainbow Crumb quilt. All ready for show and tell at my retreat demo Friday/ Monday October 23/26. I'm on the schedule to present the same demo twice!

panto: serpentine

I also quilted down a quilt for my friend. I was a little worried as the background squares are a poly cotton with a memory. It turned out kinda cute if you ignore the 'memory wrinkles'. Bernice was aware that this might happen. She's okay with that as this was a friend's UFO from many years ago that she is working on.

pattern: Bernice's dogs

My Howell MelonHeads kicked off the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Christmas Stocking making Campaign. I finished 6 stockings the other day. These are fun because...quick gratification! Only an hour from start to finish...

pattern: supplied by guild member...her own original design

WIP Wednesday 10.7.2026

I pieced my crumb chaos blocks into a top, tutorial found here.  I chose to have my rows alternate and end at the side of the quilt. Not sure that I am liking this look... Fear not, I have more crumbs to make more blocks and 'do' another setting. <grin>

Design Wall Monday 10.5.2026

I volunteered (or rather, was persuaded) to do a demo of the Crumb Chaos blocks I like to make, tutorial found here, at this month's retreat. I wanted to take a few quilts as examples and found that there is a simple rainbow row quilt that I want to recreate. Here is one of the quilts I have made in this style.

So, off the the 'parts department' I go and look at all crumb chaos blocks I found! I only have a few to fill in.

SoScrappy Saturday 10.3.2026

Today is the first Saturday of October of the color 'neutrals' or 'fill in your projects as needed'. This is a rather broad assignment this month but the 'rainbow scrappers' are getting ready to turn the monthly blocks into tops in November and finished quilts in December.

I decided that I wanted new mats around the house, so I quilted down a 2 yard hunk of sunflowers with a large meander. Looks pretty boring, eh?

First I cut it up to make a mat for my credenza in the family room where I store a few seasonal quilts that I change out.

Next, I wanted a new mat under baby Brother in the sewing room.

Next, I wanted new placemats on my kitchen table. I opted for my own placemats instead of Meals-on-Wheels but I did get more (and different sunflowers) for the Meals-on-Wheels donation this month.

So...my neutral today is the dark brown binding on my mats!

WIP Wednesday 9.30.2026

It's a short week here at Bell Creek Quilts as I was traveling home Monday and Tuesday was my re-set day. I did load the next donation quilt, the dog purple rails. All that is left is the binding, label and turning it in! 💜

Finish or NOT Friday 9.25.2026

I have a few finishes to report.

First, I finished the purple/gray 4 patch quilt with my novelties fabric.

pattern: loosely based on Bonnie Hunter ISPY a 4 Patch
What I do: novelties are cut at 6.5 inches, 4 patches made by cutting
two fabrics at 3.5 inches x WOF, sewing along the long
edge and sub cutting into 6.5 inch units. Alternate the
4 patches with novelties and try to have the same color
                                  run diagonally through the quilt.
panto: serpentine

I also finished the Purple Rail Kitties.

pattern: Loosely based on Sylvia's quilts. Where she has a novelty panel and
string blocks. I used my rail fence blocks instead of string blocks.
panto: serpentine

I found a picture of Sylvia with one of her donation quilts. LOOK! She put the novelty on the bottom this time!

WIP Wednesday 9.24.2026

I was going to make one lap size purple rail fence quilt but the top looked a little plain to me so I decided to add a chuck of novelty fabric that I didn't want to cut up. The imspiration for this setting is from my fellow guild member Sylvia. Sylvia is about 85, if she's a day and loves to make string blocks. She places the string blocks where I placed the rail fence in these two quilt tops. One has cats and the other dogs.

Design Wall Monday 9.22.2026

I'm working on my purple projects this week. First, I paired the purple/gray four patch with novelties. My purple is more lilac and a little light, but it is pretty up close and in-person.

Next, I paired a darker purple with the lilac (from above) and made a few rail fence blocks.

Finish or NOT Friday 9.18.2026

I'm happy to report the Brewers' quilt is bound, labeled and delivered! I originally 'thought my son played me' to get an oversized quilt but it turns out he wanted for the back of his couch. Which coincidentally, is about 88 inches long...the quilt goes the entire length of his couch. After I left yesterday, he said he had taken a nap under it! :)

WIP Wednesday 9.16.2026

All that's left is the binding and label for the Milwaukee Brewers' quilt. It finishes as 88 x 88 inches and maxes out my 10 foot table on the long arm.

Design Wall Monday 9.15.2026

I took a left turn on the Brewers' quilt. I decided to use the Brewers' fabric as the outer border. I was orginaly thinking about the gold splatter but in the end I went for the Brewers' fabric. I was thinking about a small inner border but it was quickly getting too large for me. It is 88 x 88 before quilting...
