WIP Wednesday 7.13.2022

I've gotten a sweet little pile of bear paw blocks created.

I was debating whether to make the sashing between the bear paws 1 or 2 inches finished. I inch finished would take less fabric but I felt 2 inch finished was the more traditional size. In the end, I went for 1 inch finished sash between the bear paw blocks since I only had about 4 yards of the background fabric. It's an older print, so almost impossible to find more. I am actually kinda liking the narrow sash between the bear paws.

DD sent me a current picture of Angie. She has a new harness that patches are able to attach by velcro. I'll have to ask DD to send me a close up of one of Angie's patches... DD is planning a move to an apartment better suited to Angie so they went to a park today near the new apartment.

New park = new smells = new photo ops! LOL

Design Wall Monday 7.11.2022

Last Friday was the Casual Quilters' Summer Dinner. We met at a different location close to Jennifer's Quilt shop. I arrived a little early to visit Jennifer's as she graciously stayed open later for the guild members. I actually brought a few panel patterns and I was talking about Quilts of Valor, so Jennifer gifted me with a Timeless Treasures Star panel! I want to make a QOV and do a little show and tell for her!

Cathy at Sane, Crazy Crumby Quilting suggested my next crumb block, bear paw! I have lots of brown crumb blocks so my logic says to make brown bear paws...I'm not always real original. LOL Here is my fabric pull for the blocks.

Here are the parts for a few of the blocks.

Here is the blow-up of the block. I was having a little trouble keeping the claws aligned correctly.

Of course, I made a few test blocks. I'm not certain what fabrics I will use as the sashings.

Finish or NOT Friday 7.8.2022

 Woo-Hoo!

I have a finish or two or three!

First up is my Warm Crumbs quilt. I suppose I should give it a better name...hot tamale or flames or ??

panto: hot rod

Next up is the Quickie Strippie. L👀K!!! I found a home for the leftover first responder vehicle fabric!

panto: serpentine

Third and final quilt is the Cool Churn Dashes (or are they Hole in the Barn Door?)

churn dash block (hole in the barn door) public domain
panto: halcyon

Whew! The first two quilts are smaller and I was surprised at how fast they went!

WIP Wednesday 7.6.2022

My warm crumb blocks didn't take too much time to sew together. I swapped out a few blocks and tried to keep the darker reds towards the outside.

Since I am up to date with the Casual Quilters Quilts of Valor, the schedule on the long arm is wide open. For some reason, I had the urge to find fire trucks to put on the back of this quilt. Lucky for me, the holiday sales were in full swing AND I was left alone at Bell Creek Quilts. I did find a backing that had fire trucks and various first responder vehicles.

Not only that but today was binding day! I will have a finish (or maybe two to share on Friday! - it's been awhile since I have shown a completed quilt!)

pattern: crumb blocks, public domain
panto: hot rod

Since warm crumbs went so quick, I remembered that I wanted make a child's quilt to donate to guild this month. I purchased this 3 yard kit at my friend's estate sale last year.

I wasn't liking the red so I swapped it out with white.

I cut the pattern out last night and after the binding, I was able to sew together the top.

Design Wall Monday 7.4.2022

HAPPY 4th of JULY, USA!

A heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to all that have helped to ensure freedoms here in the USA.

I spent part of the holiday weekend quilting down the last guild Quilt of Valor in the current batch. I always like the look of the panel quilts, especially after quilting. Here are a few of my favorites.

I also pulled out my warm color crumbs...yellow, red and orange...and arranged them on the design wall.

I wasn't liking the really light peach in my orange crumbs.

Sew...out came the rotary cutter and darker oranges. Yes! I like this better!

QOV Sunday 7.3.2022

I have a few more Quilts of Valor to share from the Casual Quilters. I receive these quilts as a bundle of a top, backing and sometimes a binding. The Casual Quilters provide me with a roll of batting to use on their quilts. The only catch is that I don't know who pieced the quilt and pattern used.

Quilt A.

Quilt B.

Quilt C.

Quilt D.

Quilt E.

Hope you enjoyed this weeks's Quilts of Valor!

SoScrappy Saturday 7.2.2022

Today is the first Saturday of July of the color PURPLE! I love purple but sadly, I don't seem to sew very often with purple.

Here are the crumby hearts and cut-offs that I worked on earlier in the week.

My oldest brother was in town and asked if I would join him and my SIL for lunch before they flew out. YES! You don't need to ask me twice! My other three brothers (who are local) and one SIL all met for lunch. It was a fun impromptu visit. The only sibling that was missing was my older sister who lives in the hills of Virginia.

Finish or NOT Friday 7.1.2022

I finished piecing the soaring eagle and it's waiting for a turn on the long arm. I have three more Casual Quilters Guild QOVs to finish and then I will start on my quilts! I think I have something that will work for the back of the soaring eagle but maybe not! LOL It depends on what color thread I decided to use.

Here is the soaring eagle flimsy.
