I took Judy and Nann's suggestions and swapped out the gray for black. I also reviewed this blogpost and cut the fabric accordingly. Here is the resulting flimsy.

Well, that was a lot of work, but I agree your crumb blocks stand out better against the black background! I love bright colors against black. This will make a great quilt, Pat!
