I thought I would sew together a few small quilts to illustrate another setting for crumb blocks. I had found a staggered set somewhere in blog land and decided to dive right in. Here are my fabric pulls.
Well, I cut and sewed and cut and sewed and here is my first one. Uhhhh...Houston, we have a problem!
While this looks fine as is...it's not WHAT I wanted. Back to the drawing board or rather, search my blog aa I remembered I had made a staggered set using my novelties a long time ago. 2014, to be exact. Thank goodness, I was blogging pretty consistently back then and was able to find my 'note to self' on a easier construction process! Find the blog post here about an offset setting.
I'm off on a few holiday errands but hope to get to the second quilt in the coming days.

The black background in the first picture and the fact that the background overlaps on the columns going down the quilt is what is different. I really think the black or some other very dark background would achieve your goal. I like your quilt, and it uses up scraps. So that's good, but I'd like it even more with a high contrast between scrap squares and background. Good work!

Yes, I think the problem is that the gray doesn't provide enough contrast. That said, I get the design concept and I want to remember it the next time I have a few crumb blocks in search of a setting.
