Design Wall Monday 1.30.2023

I finished trimming up and cutting for the next Signature quilt (#5, if keeping count).

You might ask, 'Pat, why is it NOT on the design wall ready to be sewn together?'

Good question! This morning this guild QOV was on the design wall, hanging out. A member of the guild was asking for a demo on 'how' to join the beginning/end of binding. I jokingly told he that I had quite a few guild QOV's (11) that needed quilting and binding. So, I've been sewing bindings, too but leaving the endings to show my friend.

and tonight, this guild QOV is on the design wall hanging out waiting for the binding.

I've only have two guild QOV's left in the current batch. I might not get to the crumb donation quilts this month...

SoScrappy Saturday 1.28.2023

Today is the fourth Saturday of January of the color dark/bright blue. My brights have morphed into lights and when light blue is the color of the month...well, I'll have to decide on another color. LOL

I had a hard time deciding on a fourth block and/or technique to focus on. I usually like to have a little something different to show on each Saturday of the month.  Four quilt building blocks are made each month so, in theory, I should have four rainbow quilts at the end of the year!

I finally decided to make friendship braids. My quilting buddy shared this technique a few years ago and I have the binding tool. So I combined both techniques! I did start my braid on a 2.5 inch square since I am using 2.5 inch strips.

Here is the dark blue braid. Ummm, maybe I should stick to more monochromatic fabric. LOL

Here is the light blue, I decided NOT to trim this one but I did stay stitch around both braids because of the bias edges and handling.

Finish or NOT Friday 1.27.2023

I thought I would have one finish and one NOT but I was able to have two finishes!

First up is Signature Quilt #3.

pattern: Signature squares alternating with patriotic fabrics
panto: horizontal serpentine

Signature Quilt #4 went from flimsy to a finish, in like two days! This is really an easy sew. Hopefully I won't become bored before I finish the seven (!) more I need to make...I did buy lots of different alternating fabrics. I discovered that JAF has some fabrics marked 70% off as 'Last Chance'.

WIP Wednesday 1.25.2023

I finished piecing the next Signature QOV (number 3...if you are keeping track).

I also bordered and back the remaining QOV labels that I had gotten from Spoonflower. Since they are running a sale, I should probably buy a few more labels.

I pulled another Signature QOV bundle and trimmed the blocks to all the same size. I think this might be the last one where the colors on the top of the blocks are mixed.

When I placed them on the design wall, WOW! I didn't realize that this alternate fabric would be so busy.

Design Wall Monday 1.23.2023

I pulled out a bundle for another signature quilt. It figures that I forgot to take a picture of my bundle! LOL. I did remember to take a picture of the blocks on the design wall.

This is actually the third Signature block quilt in the queue. I do have 8 more on the counter in the basement kitchen to work on, too.

SoScrappy Saturday 1.21.2023

Today is the third Saturday of January of the color dark/ bright blue. My dark blues are indeed, dark blue but my brights have morphed into light blue. Carolyn at Quarter-inch Capers and I had the same idea! We are both making the 2023 Stash Buster Challenge Block, Northwinds in RSC2023 color sequence!

I'm making mine in the 9 inch finished size as a nine patch, instead of the 'official' directions. I have always been just a wee bit of a rebel...LOL

The dark blue Northwinds blocks.

The light blue Northwinds blocks.

This block is from Betsy Dunham of the StashBuster Challenge group on FB and it shows really well the alternative 9 patch construction of this Northwinds block. Thanks to Betsy for posting this!

WIP Wednesday 1.18.2023

I made a few more split stars and arranged them in the streak of lightening set. I added a few borders and ta-da...ready for the long-armer.

Design Wall Monday 1.16.2023

I decided to get a head start on the QOV Sew Day block, the Split Star by Kim DiJoseph. I changed 'things' up a bit: I made the hst's using the tube method since I wanted a lot that were the same and for the star points, I cut the white at 3 inch square. This allows for a greater overlap when sewing the star point parts to the center. The result is that I don't run the risk of cutting off that inner point, at all!

Here is my fabric pull and directions.

Here is my stack of parts, ready for the block assembly.

Here is the first set of 12 blocks.

SoScrappy Saturday 1.14.2023

I'm a little late today as when I went to post this morning, the battery on my laptop died. Off to charge her up and I got involved in my days activities. Onward...

Today is the second Saturday of January of the color dark/bright blue. For today, I decided upon houses and huts to show.

First are the houses. My bright blue has morphed into light blue this month and I wasn't sure it would 'show' against the sky fabric.

pattern: Debby Brown's Pink Houses

My huts were an accident. I took a 6.5 inch cut crumb block. Sewed 2.5 x 6.5 cut sky on either side then when I made the roof...oops. I cut the roof 10.5 x 4.5 and the sky blocks at 4.5 square (I did a stitch and flip for the triangle). Here is the result. A flat top roof...which looks more like a hut to me! LOL

Finish or NOT Friday 1.13.2023

I finished my projects for this week! Whoop! Whoop!

First up is my 'Churn Dash Those Stars' from Lisa Sutherland's book, Patriotic Mix Match and More book, found here. I really like how this one turned out and one more quilt using half square triangles!

panto: horizontal serpentine

I played binding chicken with my square spiral quilts and lost. Not by much, but I still needed to add a little bit.

I also played bobbin chicken and lost. Needless to say that I DID NOT buy any lottery tickets that day! 😍
I donated one to the local Red Cross and kept the other for my crumb lecture. Just in case I want to take 'the lecture on the road'.

MidWeek Makers 1.11.2023

I'm just cruising along this week...

I finished piecing my 'Churn Dash Those Stars' from Lisa Sutherland's Patriotic Mix & Match & More book.  This one turned out really pretty. I have yardage of the medium print and thought it would work well in this quilt.

pattern: Churn Dash Those Stars in Lisa Sutherland's Patriotic M&M&M book.

I realized that guild was this week and I didn't have a child's quilt to donate. So I pulled out my multi-colored crumbs and set to work.

One to give...

...and one to keep!

Design Wall Monday 1.9.2023

I missed the New Year Sew Day of a Lisa Sutherland pattern from her book, Patriotic Mix, Match and More, found here. I was busy sewing and cutting for other projects.

So, I decided to work on a Lisa Sutherland pattern this week. I picked out 'Churn Dash Those Stars' on page 53 of Lisa's Patriotic M&M&M book. Here is my fabric pull. I actually have yardage of a medium patriotic print so this pattern is a good fit.

The pattern calls for quite a few hst's in various combinations. After a spell, I had the center laid out, I was just slightly worried that a. blocks would fall off the design wall and b. I would transpose a block and have a date with Jack the ripper.
