SoScrappy Saturday 7.30.2021

Today is the fifth Saturday of July of navy, black or brown.

I decided to go rogue for my free Saturday! Since I had the teal out for this quilt, I decided to make teal blocks...

WIP Wednesday 7.28.2021

Today is binding day... I machine sew the binding to the front then turn to the back and machine sew that. I've been sewing bindings this way for quite a few years now. When I was making children's quilts with the Oconomowoc Quilt guild, this was the desired way to bind. As it is more durable through the wash then my hand stitching. Plus not only is it faster but also easier on the arthritis.

Quilted

 Yay!

Today I quilted. You can see that the backing ran the entire length of my leaders. That's 100 inches!

Design Wall Monday 7.26.2021

I pieced and assembled the final border on my 'She Sells Seashell' quilt. I decided to try and cut the  borders the same length as the body of the quilt to try and reign in the fullness. Piecing the borders were relatively painless, just a bit cumbersome because of the length.

I 'knew' I was close on backing but I totally missed the mark. I went into the cupboard and found something that would work. Here is the backing before the final addition. If it's square it will be a miracle!

My piecing woes continued as I needed to add to my batting.

My next project is one I volunteered to do. The QOV Working Stars group needs Motorcycle Panel quilts for a September presentation and I said I would make one. I was sent the panel and now I need to create...

Idea 1: A modified Sidelights using the current star block.

Idea 2: Build around panel using the stars.

Idea 3: use a combination of leftover flag blocks and star blocks.

I'm leaning towards idea 1 as I think it will have the least math involved....LOL

SoScrappy Saturday 7.24.2021

Today is the fourth Saturday of the month of July of dark blue, brown or black. I'm still working on the dark blues. Today is for the crumbs. I went through the scrap bin of blues and picked out a few of the darker tones.

I made a set of crumb blocks. Although a few lighter shades sneaked into the blocks!

After 25 blocks, my pile hardly went down!

Alas, back into the scrap bin they went!!

Finish or NOT Friday 7.23.2021

I'll take the 'NOT' on the finish but I am inching closer to the finish line...

I decided to make this one queen size and 'to do' larger borders instead of more blocks. The easy and lazy way.... I have one more border to go. No need to adjust the picture...it is a bit wavy as happens with my slap and sew method. and no, it won't quilt out for me. I'm just going to live with it as is... LOL

WIP Wednesday 7.21.2021

I finished piecing and trimming my blocks for Debby Brown's July Quilt 'She Sells Seashells'. I decided to 'go with' Debby's color scheme and make a beachy/oceany looking quilt.

I was also able to sew the bonus triangle blocks. I haven't squared them up yet, that will be a future Pat decision/activity/problem!'

On Wednesdays I usually link up with Susan at MidWeek makers but her Linky isn't open yet. I'll check again tonight to see if the Linky is operational!

Design Wall Monday 7.19.2021

A little late in the month but I just started my Debby Brown July Color Block Quilt, She Sells Seashells. I decided to match the colors of Debby's quilt, teal and cream. Here is the teal fabric pull.

When I work with yardage, I strip piece the 16 patch blocks. Here are the first half of the strip sets.

Here is my pile of blocks. Next step will to add the cream corners...

Finish or NOT Friday and SoScrappy Saturday

Since I missed my Finish or NOT Friday post, I decided to combine it with my SoScrappy Saturday post.

If you are visiting from Alycia's blog....WELCOME!

If you are visiting from Angela's blog....WELCOME!

First, Finish or NOT Friday

Yes, I did make and apply the bias binding to my sweatshirt jacket. All in all, I'm pretty happy with it and I learned a lot. Hopefully, I'll remember my lessons. LOL I think this will be really warm, after all, I will be wearing a quilt!

pattern credit: I cut apart a sweatshirt and used those pieces as templates on a quilt panel and then sewed the parts back together.

Second, SoScrappy Saturday

This is the third Saturday of July of navy, brown or black. I choose to concentrate on navy/ dark blue. The third Saturday is my crayon day. I was a little worried that the black and darks would fade into each other. Time will tell when the whole quilt top is constructed.

WIP Wednesday 7.14.2021

My project this week is to finish my quilted jacket. I put it aside and it was in danger of becoming a UFO!

So, I laid out my sweatshirt pieces on the quilt panel. I elected to keep the front and back as one large panel.

The 'Swiss cheese' that was leftover after the cutting. I dug out my pinking shears! I was happy to find them after this move. I have plenty of leftover to make a purse, too!

I sewed the parts.

One sleeve sewn on and one to go!

Both sleeves sewn on! Now to calculate, find and make the bias binding to enclose the raw edges.

I don't know very much about garment sewing. It's a little bulky under the arms...I'll need to do some research. I am aware that if I taper the sides then I'll need to adjust the sleeves, too. LOL I'm just not exactly sure how to achieve that! In the meantime, I'm pretty happy with this first attempt or as one would say in my science days 'dry run'.

Design Wall Monday 7.12.2021

I decided to make a few blocks for the FB QOV Working Stars group, the Pinwheel Star. this star has more hst's so I'm only going to make a few. I have 9 made and I mis-sewed some (ripping required) then I'll have a few more to add to the count. I originally thought I made them wrong...reversed where the red spins...but I actually made them correct! I pretty much decided that I will use them in one quilt to be added to the group count instead of mailing the blocks to New Hampshire.

These directions were a little confusing to me so I searched Pinwheel Star (and Double Pinwheel Star) on Pinterest and found a few directions that were easier for me to understand. I did settle on this one and adjusted the tube method for the larger 6.5 inch sections.

SoScrappy Saturday 7.10.2021

Today is the second Saturday of July of the month of dark blue, brown or black or any combination color prompt. I have chosen to make a few blocks in the dark blue range. I'll probably fill in with other colors as needed when I go to assemble this quilt top.

Here are my dark blue pinwheels. Again, just a few were made so far this month.

Whoop! Whoop! 7.9.2021

A slow week here at Bell Creek Quilts with not very much accomplished. I spent Sunday-Monday-Tuesday at the cottage. Wednesday was a catchup day at the house. Thursday was QOV meeting day and grocery shopping, which brings me to today-Friday.

I did manage to get to the sewing space for a few hours and decided to make a few blocks for Alycia's current block drive, details found here about the flock of geese pattern. I'm not a big fan of making hst's so I think this will be my addition to Alycia's current block drive.

Happy Belated Birthday USA 7.5.2021

One day late but still heartfelt! Happy Belated Birthday to my blogging friends in the USA. I hope you are celebrating USA's birthday!

I am at my in-laws cottage for a few days. I took the long way and stopped in to have lunch with DS and DIL! I was very surprised at the wait at a few of the chain restaurants! So we ended up in downtown Bay City (Michigan) at a new farm to table, locally sourced restaurant, MI Table.  Sorry...no website only a FB page, I had the beer brats...very yummy!

The kids would like to move to a hobby farm someday and they already have a few hens!

This was my view a little earlier before the rain came. I am always amazed at how fast the storm blow in across the lake. I'm thinking my pontoon ride will have to wait for clear weather. I should have seized the opportunity this morning when it was clear!

One of the cottages is having a septic problem so DH is helping with that...so sad it had to happen over the holiday weekend....

No new projects started so no Design Wall Monday! Maybe I'll have a Design Wall Wednesday!

Hope your day is a happy one!

SoScrappy Saturday 7.3.2021

Today is the first Saturday of July of  'Dark Neutrals' at SoScrappy. I'm going to concentrate on the darker shades of blue this month. I just cleared out by black scrap bin. Maybe if I get motivated, I'll dive into browns...but no promises. LOL

Here are a few navy blue blocks.

Whoop! Whoop! 7.2.2021

I've been working on my A12 Dakota Inspired Military Mystery.

One half completed.

Two halves completed.

I decided to add the small outer border in hopes to contain all the bias-ness that is happening with this one.

Fresh off the long arm not even an hour ago!

No binding yet...that's an after lunch task...

Thursday Update 7.1.2021

Happy Birthday, Canada! May all my blogging friends in Canada have a wonderful day celebrating Cananda!

I assembled the B blocks for A12. First I made the parts and I decided to swap out my medium and dark blues. I hope they look okay when finished.

Next, here are the cuties on the wall. This is as far as I've progressed on A12.

The switch for the long arm arrived late Monday afternoon and DH installed it Monday night! I gave her a test run on Tuesday and NO BLINKING OFF! yeah! Here's what I quilted down:

The black jacket panel! This is as far as I progressed on this project.

Wednesday was a day to rest as my back was acting up a bit and today, we are getting a new furnace/AC unit installed at the bungalow. It will be a two day process... I'm so happy the rain has stopped and a drier (read less muggy) air mass will move in while the technicians are doing the install!

That's all I got...hopefully more later...
